View Full Version : Folding Business Cards

Okay, we're putting the call out. We've just ordered a large number of Team 93 business cards. What we are looking for are about 50 volunteers that are willing to commit to handing out a hundred cards. We're talking analog spam here. The digital spam worked so well that we are taking this roadshow offline. :p
Here is the card:

So, if you're interested in getting a package with 100 cards in it, please post in this thread "yes, i'm interested". Later I'll be contacting you for your shipping address.
You should hand out the cards to everyone you know. For example, I'm going to send one or two out in every package I ship out from an ebay sale. I'm going to put a few on the bulletin board at the local coffee shop, etc.
If too many people volunteer, we will be basing our decision on how creative you intend to be with handing out the cards. So let me know in this thread what you plan on doing with them

p.s. last time i checked stanford stats there were only about 165,000 active cpu's, not millions. not bitchin thou, cause the cards kickass

yes, I've love to have some. My interesting idea: talk to local computer businesses to give the business cards out with new systems / ask them if I could booth at their store for a day and talk to people / hand out cards.

25 Apr 2005, 4:33pm
Yes, I'm interested. I have develpoed a decent customer base here in the southeast and the cards would be taped to the front of every PC that goes back out the door. Matter of fact, they will be taped over the power button, wouldn't want any cheating would we??? :D

25 Apr 2005, 9:47pm
Would it be possible to get smaller increments? I could drop them off at places, leave them with the waiter's checks, etc. Also, my mom is an HR manager at her work, so she talks to almost every customer/partner they have. She could easily give them one, along with her business card, and give 'em a quick 10-second shpiel.
I haven't asked her yet, but I'm sure she would. And if not, I'd still like some for myself - but maybe not 100. Possibly around 25 or something?

Okay, the first batch is away. I need to get more packaging and then I can send batch 2 out.
Those outside of the US: I apologize for the lame packaging, but I stuffed large envelopes full of cards instead of putting them in boxes. It is much cheaper to send an envelope than a box to Canada, UK, Australia, etc. :D

I always tell my students to fold, and these cards might be a good way to help them remember by the time they get home. I think that a few of them do remember, cause they are really interested in it, but I doubt that they remember to enter 93 as their team. These cards would help with that also...
I could easily go through a hundred of them, just handing them out to interested students. Most of my students are socially conscientious adults with families (and older parents) so it's easy to interest them.

Hey Brian, were those made by that company you told me about online? I cant remember the name, did you just design a PSD and send it to them? They look top notch, I need to have some business cards made up and those look awesome.
I don't need the cards, but I wanted to say that those are about the sexiest business cards I've ever seen.

These things are even better when seen in person. They are laminated with a sweat-proof finish so they won't go soggy in your pocket, and are sturdy enough to pick locks with. Amazing to behold.

They make great toothpicks :p
They were done at www.gotprint.com
I've dealt with them for two years now, gotten lots of cards from them for different things, and the quality has always been beyond superb. I have never once spoken with a single human being there. I submit the orders as PDF files on their website, put in my credit card, etc.. and then they send back a PDF proof. If the proof is okay, I click "okay" and then the cards show up several days later.
Their prices are a bit high on shipping, and they do take a while to get here (because overnight shipping is exhorbitantly high), but other than that, i have no complaints.
Cam, yes, that's them.
If you've still got some cards left I'm interested in passing a few out, I think church and the local music/hobby shop among others would be good places to pass them out.

i think these cards are soooooo beautiful i may have to make a collage (is that how u spell it??) out of random things to resemble my last remaining few cards... maybe in the shape of a donkey?
i actually asked a bird out tonight and then when she refused, i then gave her a folding at home buisness card... i'm gonna stick a pin in a map here but that is a card wasted i feel...??!!
... on the other hand... maybe she didnt want me to ruin the card with me scrawling my mumber over www.joinfolding.com ...
thats what i'd like to think
how is the great card giveaway going people??
EDIT> Sorry folks, was drunk posting and only now do I realise that i dont make much sense nor am i in any way funny when i've had a few beers. At least the folding spirit is still in me though!!!
Got mine. I'll start giving them to interested students on Monday.

I rigged up some stickers out of them with some double sided tape. Stickem on my lappy, monitor at work, Bulliton boards, Car, Skateboard, snowboard, nightclup bathroom walls, etc.
The double sided tape is the exact length height-wise of the card so its easy to just cut them to spec with a pair of scissors. And they stick perfectly.
Just lay out a strip of tape about 10 cards or so long. Then lay the cards down on the tape, then cut between the cards.
Id post pics but my cams toast, but give it a try. They look prertty cool.

Just got the cards and boy are they pretty!
I know that a lot of ideas were kicked around in this thread as to how we can distribute the cards.
How about including a reference to team 93 in our e-mail signature and putting a link to folding@home in there. I must send close on 40 to 50 e-mails out a day. Most of them I'm just forewarding a whole lot of jokes and other cr*p to mates of mine. I figure if they make time to read half the rubbish received in their inbox they can check out a quick link.
Just a suggestion. If someone has already come up with the idea in another thread my apologies. To my way of thinking, thats the quickest way of getting to thousands of people.
