HP DVD Writer 300N

It will play bought audio cds, and i can explore the file of SOME dvds, but it wont bring them up automatically when i put in the cd. I'm not quite sure, what the problem is, but Im sure yall can give me some direction.

Did you install any DVD software on your machine? It's been my experience that a DVD player will be recognized as a CD device until some 3rd party software is installed to tell windows otherwise.

No I have had this computer, and dvd writer/cd wrtier combo since september of 2003. Its been faithful to me all this time, I would hate to think its crapping out on me. But do notice this peculiar occurence. When I put in an audio cd, and SOME dvds I can go my computer, explore dvd drive, and i can get to the video. But it does not splash a screen up to pick which program to use when I push in a cd/dvd. Just weird.
