I'm pretty sure I already know what client will win this poll, but I was just curious as to what client people use for BitTorrents. I tried to put as many clients as I could find (most Ive never heard of), but if its other please post!

who voted Pingpong ABC? I wanna know about it

Thrax

Right here.

ABC is no muss, no fuss. It's as fast as any client, has a small footprint, and isn't as apt to bug to bug out as Azureus is.

if ABC supports swarming, I was never able to find it. I find that with the same number of connections, on average, azureus is much much much faster. I'm talking 10x

Another ABC user here. It's stable and my speeds are just fine.

sfleuriet
5 Jun 2005, 4:40pm
really... maybe I should try it. Would it be possible for me to open a torrent in ABC that's already been half downloaded in Azureus?

Kwitko
5 Jun 2005, 4:44pm
As long as the default download locations are the same, I don't see why not.

5 Jun 2005, 4:55pm
you mean the file path where its DLing to? yeah those would be the same

Azureus is the one that's worked best for me. Only issue I ever had was the recent version not working until I'd updated to the latest Java release.

bit tornado. i've never used anything else (never had any reason to.) it has lotsa features that are helpful.

Azureus here too, haven't tried any others, many claimed it to be the best and I have no quarrels over it. Plus I like the plugins I got for it too..

sfleuriet
5 Jun 2005, 9:18pm
ok i think i'll have to test out some of these to see if i like them.

Who voted other??? the whole point of this thread is for me to know what people have to say about the clients, and post which ones they use (obviously).

I used to use ABC. Then I got Azureus, and never looked back. Whoever whines about memory usage needs their head checked. 30 megs, with 100+ torrents open? You're whing about that?! I have 512 total and 30-40 doesn't bother me one bit. It's better now with 2.3.whatever now, too. it's down to 12 with 40 torrents going. I love it.

I use Bit Tornado. I would think that Azureus uses too much resources since it is Java and much larger than Bit Tornado.

I don't think it does- cpu usage is minmal, but it will take most of your bandwidth.

The beauty of Azureus is you can easily limit its upload and download bandwidth limits.

I haven't used BT in a really long time as one of my favorite sites was shut down months ago. (Any suggestions?)

I used ABC. It was the first one I ever used and I've never had a reason to find a new client.

ok - if you click on that link, it goes to sourceforge which is all open-source projects. on that page are older downloads of your BitTorrent client software.

www.novatina.com

www.mybittorrentnews.com
www.mybittorrent.com
www.torrentbox.com
www.torrentportal.com - i just heard about that one. I'll try it too

I use Bit Tornado. Azureus wouldn't load for me last time I tried it, and Bit Tornado works well enough that I haven't bothered with anythign else.

what are you talking about? If you see my screenshot, the giant red box I circled, doesnt go to sourceforge or anything like that, it downloads the bittorrent client from that site, the one I've been talking about the whole time....

the link below all those buttons says "click for source an older version" goes to sourceforge and has the source...or older versions of the same client I've been talking about the whole time.

my only point being, I suppose that client is JUST called "bittorrent" and that is the particular one I use.

Wow. It might actually help if I had BT installed. I just realized it's been so long since I've used it that I've reformatted since and never thought once about reinstalling BT. That's not cool. :o

I'd rather not break S-M's rules.

I use TorrentStorm, which is essentially a multi-torrent frontend for BitTornado. It has selectable torrent downloaders (though why you'd use other than BitTornado is anyone's guess) and lets you configure all the options fairly easily. It can also minimize to the systray and supports upload/download speed limits.

Lol.

I have to join the client debate by saying I've used BitTorrent (the original BT client, as Camman does). Then I moved to BitTornado and I've been with BitComet (http://bitcomet.com) for some time now and it's awesome. I can download mulitple torrents in one window, set priorities and a whole set of other options.

I was useing Shadow's Experimental client for a long time, then I switched to Azureus and I like it 100% better. So many options, so easy to use, and the amount of information it gives you about your torrent is incredible...

WHAT?!! bittorent sites are NOT illegal. If you download illegal stuff, thats your own wrongdoing. These sites are very legal and usefull for downloading LEGAL stuff like demos, updates, freeware, opensource programs etc.

It's like in Texas- you cannot pick a Bluebonnet, but you can pick all the daisies you want. You go into a field filled with flowers, and theres lots of Bluebonnets and Daisies everywhere. Picking the Bluebonnets is wrong, but yes you can do it.

the program at http://www.bittorrent.com/ is the original bit torrent client by bram, the guy who invented & wrote the bt protocol.
