My school is small, only averaging 260 at most. Its 2 stories
What kinda PC: Gateways, the bottom line ones, those white ones
OS: Windows 98!!
We have this guy who set up all this networking crap using Novell. It REALLY SUCKS.
So this is how it is. WE ALLL have our own login names; lastname followed by first letter of your name,
all separated by grades
restricts basically ALL game sites. most famous one we can use is Kruno.com
blocks soooo many sites. even sights with like 1 swear.
If seen entering a porn site u loose PC privilages for your whole life at the school
Have our own hdd space
cant download
cant install
can select start and get the menu, only has shutdown and log off
cant right click desktop/change wallpaper
cant move files around anywhere
and worst of all the PC SUCKKKKK
we got some pc that are 233MHz 98, 64mb, and who knows what else. takes like 6 minutes to boot...
Best PC we got are the high performance gateways and 2 new apples and 1 used one.
I've got to have worst. :wtf:
That's because kids are tards, and all of the above activities would be abused constantly if not locked down.

also schools use novell because how it shares resorces it actually very effecient and simple if the admin knows what they are doing, also it allows for HUGE numbers of people and schools to be under the same Orginization in the network, you could logon to any computer in the county if you knew your location in the orginization tree. also there is no central point of administration, all of the users/files/logon scripts everything. is stored on whats called a NOS - network Operating System. it uses volumes on hard drives to store data, but it has no GUI, and basicly no user interface. the admin works from a normal machine in the network, any machine in the network. Novell is really odd, it does what windows advanced server does poorly very well, and it does what windows advanced server does very well, very poorly

Yarr, Thrax be right.
One time in CE9 last year, we somehow had more access rights than usual. So we went and changed the desktops. Most everyone did it, especially cuz we had a sub. Nothing bad, just funny ones. Most everyone got caught. Except me :D. I went back before I left, realized I couldn't access the default one, so I busted open Paint, found a color that was dead close to the original 98 background, and did that ;D I don't know if they ever found it.
With that No Child Left Behind crap, the filters have been really strict. Most kids, even the idiots, have learned to ping the websites and write in the IP. A friend of mine talked to the admins, THEY brought it up - he didn't squeal, and they basically said it's too much fuss to block IPs as well. I don't think it is - I think they agree that it's too strict, and honestly don't care that much.
Games sites: try 123spill.no or 1001spill.no . They're Norwegian, I believe, but you can just look at the pictures.
Edit:
About Novell. Say I bring a laptop to school, one without Novell. Is it possible for me to get on the wireless, if I would just put in the wireless network's password?

The best are the linux labs at my school. They were COMPLETELY open if you knew what you were doing. I didn't unfortunately ;D

I cant remember what sort of security rules they had at my school (similar to what was posted though), but one could get around it if they used a proxy server.

Then make your own. That's what some of my friends and I did.

I don't think it works like that. Ours is set up so that if you don't go through the school proxy, it won't work...
