View Full Version : Celebrating the 4th of July in Sydney
Well it looks like I will be celebrating the 4th of July down here in old Sydney.
Just received the following surprise invitation
"Commander, Carrier Strike Group FIVE and William A Stanton, Charge d' Affaires, of the Australian Embassy of the United States of America request the pleasure of your company at a reception on board USS KITTY HAWK (CV 63) docked at the Australian Naval Base Garden Island Sydney. Commencement at half past five o'clock. Uniform full service dress, Civilian Smart business or formal wear"
I've done some work for the embassy here and looks like I've managed to get on the guest list - sounds like a bit of fun.
I'm quite chuffed

Don't fall for it mate, our Navy used to recruit like that a few hundred years ago. You'll wake up with a bad headache in the middle of the Gulf somewhere.

Hey how do you think my family ended down here in the 1st place -any excuse to shove people on a boat and ship them to the antipodes.
Did not realise the Kitty Hawk was so damn big - 5500 people on board, so I don't think they will try to press gang me aboard, I don;t think they have the room.

Watch out! they could easily make room for 1 more. ;D
Have fun. :D

Enjoy tcith! I just spent two years on USS John C. Stennis and never got used to living on a boat with 6000 of my closest friends. You haven't lived until you've stood feet away from a F-14 in full afterburner....

Sure, and your Navy used to steal Americans and press them into service as well...
A buddy of mine is a marine and I believe he's aboard the Kitty Hawk, I know he's in Australia right now for sure though.

Yeah, by all means go to it, tcith. The Kittyhawk is the oldest active carrier the US has right now, but it is still a damn potent ship. I imagine that they will put on a great day for everyone.

Yeah it's doing joint excercise operations in the coral sea off Queensland right now and then heading to Sydney for shore leave.
Lock up your daughters
