Is there a distinction between a Creative Commons deed and the general guise of the open source community? From what I understand open source software is so that the ideas and work can be shared and improved upon. But the Creative Commons clause reads something to the affect of "No derivative work allowed". Anyway, I just wanted to open this line of discussion. I might just be confused about the facts.

You can actually choose the creative commons deed that best suites your work. You can allow/dissallow derivative works, commercial usage, and performance of the works. CC applies to all sorts of stuff (for example, alot of sites with original music or videos license their content under CC) where as "open source" applies only to software I would think.
