stupid modem!

problem

i have an alcatel speedtouch 330 modem

very basic decent modem cept for one thing

if ever i click the taskbar icon to remove a peice of usb hardware (necessary to remove safely of course) my modem cuts out then tries to re establish the link

after it has tried it comes up 'ppp link error'

i have tried downloading the latest drivers but to no avail

this problem has been present for as long as i can remember but it has just become a problem as i have a portable video player which i plug and unplug frequently

any one shed any light?

i had a poke around on google but didnt find anything helpful
