View Full Version : Possible Florida SM LAN Party!

Okay. I haven't cleared it yet, but I may have a location in which to host a LAN of 35-40 people. I'd like to get a tally of how many people would be interested in coming to a LAN party in the Tampa Bay area of Florida.

The location in which the LAN would be held is inside an air conditioned building. It's my work place. We have a decent sized training center that would probably hold 35-40 people comfortably. I'm pretty sure I could get approval to hold it there. I'd just have to guarantee NO damage to anything whatsoever. In fact, if this does pan out, I may have to work up a waiver just to be safe. It's not that I don't trust you guys. Basically, "**** happens."

Anyway, there is already wired and wireless internet access within this room. All we'd need is a few more switches if we had a larger turnout. There are many places to eat within a mile of the building, and so many pizza places that would deliver, it's insane. Assuming that people didn't crash in the training room (if there's a larger turnout, there may not be room), there are two hotels right across the street from the office.

Due to this being an office, the LAN would take place between 5pm on Friday and have to be completed and cleaned up before 6am Monday. I'd like to have it next month, as I begin school on August 29, but if it has to take place another time, then so be it. Please, in your responses, suggest a time for this to take place.

If I missed any info, I'll post it when I get a chance. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

This is just to find out how many people would be willing to travel down here for an SM Florida LAN. Thanks!

By the way, this is in replacement of "GnomeLAN."

Gnome said he'd be able to come and bring people if this goes through. I've been a long-standing member of both Icrontic and SM, if you guys don't remember. My old username was Trekky8472. Just so you don't think I'm some random person coming in here trying to get people to come to a LAN. :)

Oh! And can this be moved to the gaming section? I didn't think to put it there.

Good luck - I hope all you Suthren folks who can't make it up north for the big event two weeks from now will take advantage of this chance to get together. It looks like a lot of fun. :)

Haha. We're actually about a half mile down the road from Busch Gardens/Adventure Island. We're within approximately 45 minutes of Clearwater beach, depending on traffic. I'm sure there are plenty of fishing spots nearby too. :)

I think they should hold another one in January or February. That would be just about the time we northerners could use a little sunshine and above-freezing temperatures. Or maybe during the college Spring Break season. Coeds...bikinis...cold beer... :D

Bumpity-bump!

Come on, guys. I know I'm not as exciting or cool as Gnome, but he'll be there if this happens! Let's see some response!

I'm going to go post at Icrontic too. I forgot about that.

Alright. Tell ya what, then, Gnome. If you're for it, I'm going to plan it. If we have 7-8 people, then so be it. If we have more, then all the better. If you're willing to make the trip, I can get the room at my place of work, and we can setup in there.

We also have a big screen TV right outside the training center where this would be held. Nice comfortable couches too for some console gaming. :)

I was just thinking about this thread earlier today. Nice rez, GaMeR.

I don't think Gnome would have the time or energy to plan something, as he's planning for other things. ;)

I'll see what I can conjure up here in a few weeks.

No. He'll hang the first time he tells his new bride he's going to be gone for the weekend playing computer games. ;D
