I have a modest home network with two computers directly connected to each other and a perfect network. One computer is the "bad" which has internet and just downloads, the other is my "good" gaming rig. Upon creating the network i deliberatly did not share the internet but i could share the internet as i tried while i was playing around with it a bit. Now 6 months down the track i tried to share the internet to no success. Network wizard does not pick it up. Both computers are running XP SP1, i have 1.5mps ADSL and i hade the internet on while i was running network wizard. I am 99.99% everything is right when i set up network wizard. Can any body help or give me your thoughts or some useful links, Thanks.

What kind of router are you using if any at all?

What I had to do was plug my DSL modem into one of the communication ports instead of the WAN port on my linksys to get it to share anything across. Were talking about 2 xp SP2 machines also.

so your using the inbuilt ICS (internet connection sharing)

SO Modem is connected to computer A via USB or Eathernet card A
Then conputer A has a second ethernet card that connects via switch or cross over cable to Computer B.

would help to know the exact equipment and how you have it connected
other than that there are some excellent guides to sharing internet on the net, but if we know your settup we could direct you to the one that best suits your setup

Thanks for replying. I DONT have a router and trying to use inbuilt ICS. I have a D-Link DSl-200 modem connected via USB. In that same computer i have a standard 10/100 ethernet. The "good" computer also has an 10/100 ethernet built into the motherboard. The network has no swith or hub and just has a 10m length of cross-over cable connecting the two computers together through their ethernet.

Is the LAN switched on in the 'bad' PC? On my NF7s, you have to go into the bios and turn the LAN controller on. What motherboard are you using?

The LAN switch must be turned on if i LAN games through both computers. I can share files and printers with no problems so it must be turned on. My "good" computer is Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe and my "bad" computer is an Epox EP-8KHAL+

Have you checked the firewall settings on both computers?
