View Full Version : More recruits
A new term means new students to recruit to the folding cause... It looks like I'll have more than just a couple actually go through with it this time. One of my students told me that she even recruited several more people from her workplace... Also, I mentioned it to the Academic Dean, and he said that he was going to install it on his two new computers...
Fold on!

Just wondering, wow i should know this by now  but what is the SM project? I just started folding a few days ago because I never bothered asking what it was. So i guess its pretty important just like folding.

Click The SMx Project - Reloaded link in my sig. There will be other links to everything you want to know. :)
Thanks for joining Team 93. :fold:
Ok profdlp I just read the thing on the smx project. I can't belive how much dedication you guys have to this. This is without a doubt the best pc forum I have ever used! I never knew what folding was, but a few days ago I asked someone, so I started (sorry for doing it so late, but late is better than never right? ). Anyway I would just like to say how great it is to see this going on. good work!
If i come across anything that i can donate, ill be sure to tell someone. What kind of stuff are you guys in need of the most.
I've only been folding for 2 days, and I already managed to get 3 new people to join team #93!

Awesome dedication, tmh88, especially so early in your folding career! ;)
The SMx Page on the base S-M website has the project parts needs listed.
Update: The dean has begun folding on his two computers, and should have his first WU posted any day now :D
The students have been asking a lot of questions about how to join the forum, so it seems that some of them have started!
I've found that recuiting new folders is even more rewarding than watching my own point production go up. I mean in just a few minutes of talking to the class, I can potentialy ad so much more to the project than I could ever do on my own... I know that the point of the project is not just to make us feel good about contributing, but that is a nice bonus...
On a related note, My own father still refuses to fold for fear that it will slow down his system... :shakehead
Hmm i have an idea for when i go back to school, but some of you may need to help me. My school has one of those website/download blockers called bess. Anyway I'll try to get every computer that I can folding, but I'm not sure if ill be able to get around bess. The computers are new dell 2.8ghz P4's so theyre pretty good. Hopefully i wont get in caught, well then again there are about 2,000 students in my highschool, and a few hundred pc's.
Does anyone know how to get around it to try and get the pc's folding?

That's usually the way of it. Your father knows enough about computing that he is afraid to cause damage to his PC with a program he knows little about and considers potentially dangerous. Your class, most likely n00bs one and all, isn't afraid to put a completely unknown program on their PC, because they don't know any better. I wonder how much spyware those folks have, too... ;)

Let me put it this way, one of my friends works in the computer tech department after school for some $$$$$$ and he says that he has never seen such random **** in his life. There anything from games like halo, to porn! So i doubt anyone will care if the computer is folding at the same time.
Yea, Dad has a seperate computer that he uses just for downloading things and opening them before he moves them to his main rig... That computer could certainly get some folding done, if no other...

Yea exactly. I dont let anyone in my family touch my pc. I see what happens to the family pc (a dell 3ghz p4 that runs like a 500mhz pII cause of the junk on it) and thats the last thing that i would want happening to my rig.
Looks like some of my students are getting their first WUs posted!

That is a pretty good idea why dont u try to write a letter to ur school tech. i know i am not very good at writing but maybe someone here might be a good writer and can write u a letter (i might try it myself, i'll need a letter though). a 100 comps a lot, maybe u'll beat csimon.

Good luck not getting caught... at the schools in my town you can get a suspension or denied access to school computers for the rest of the year if you are caught downloading stuff without permission. Even going online without asking first will get you a good lecture. It's still amazing to see how much spyware there is in those computers even with those rules.
On the bright side, if all of those computers were folding we'd be pwning everyone in the ranks.

Good point, SpywareShooter.
Fellows, as much as we would like to see every computer in the world Folding, we ask all of our team members to always get permission before installing it on any machine. As SS pointed out, it can get you in way more trouble than you want to have in your life. On top of that, it could end up giving Folding a bad name. Too many people would assume that since you snuck it in there on them that it must be some sort of malware.
I'm sure SpywareShooter will tell you that we don't need people showing up in the SVT Forum asking how to get rid of that "weird FAH program which appeared suddenly on all our machines." ;D

I'll only help them remove it if they're not folding for Team 93 ;D
