View Full Version : Faster Wireless IP acquisition?

I have a notebook I use to connect wirelessly to 2 linksys routers, one at work, the other at home.

I'm accustomed to my wife's powerbook hooking up and getting an ip address within 5 seconds, usually in about 2 seconds. On my laptop (a dell with XP and internal intel wireless) it takes 10-30 seconds.

128 bit encription is on, and i use the Intel control panel.

Any way to make it connect a bit faster?

Static it your self.

That's what I originally wanted to do, but I'm having a hard time figuring out how to add the static ip's for each profile - both the Windows client and the Intel client seem a bit lacking there.

My wife's ibook is static, which might be the reason it's so much faster.

Heres a quick quide I made in m$ paint for how to do it on windows xp (Just change what needs to be changed for your network)

Edit: goina have to make a second post to include step 3 and 4 :/

(step 3 and 4)

This is how you do it in windows xp without having to use the routers evil config. This should be the same for wi-fi as my wired connection.

edit: btw since your on a linksys at both home and work you can use the same settings there as at home ;D .
