I had a bit of scare last week when I thought I lost my usb key drive, since it had data on it which wasn't backed up to any other source. Because of this, I was wondering if anyone knew a way to automatically copy all of the files on the drive to the hard drive of my desktop every time I connect it. Ideally I would like it to be a background operation, so I don't even think about it. I'd appreaciate any thought or input.

Thanks,
Xanthos

Perhaps some file syncronization software paired with an autorun file or something.

Check out this thread:

I'm sure they're are easier ways of doing it, but you could create an autorun file on the usb drive, which activates a local sync app, which you could pre-configure to sync up your USB drive with a pre-designated folder on your hard drive. So when you plug the drive in, the autorun script will activate, initiate a sync program, and your PC will automatically copy the files on the USB drive to a folder of your choice. (If the sync software is properly configured of course).

There may be a flaw in that plan, but it's off the top of my head, give it a try.
