Laptop CardBus Ethernet Card

I'm working on this old Laptop, P133 Intel CPU, running Windows 95. It has two PC card slots, one is already enhabited by a modem card, which works fine, in both slots.

I picked up a Card Bus PC Card 32bit 100/10M network card, can't seem to get it to work. I'm still wrestling with drivers, but the cards lights don't come on when the laptop is powered up, and it isn't detected at all in the PCMCIA monitoring device.

Here are my questions:

Will the card light up without the drivers?

Should it be detected even without the drivers installed under 95?

Is there just one standard of PCMCIA card which should work on all laptops, old and new, or is their conflicting standards?

Any help would be appreciated.

Cardbus cards won't work on a laptop that old, mate.. Hate to tell you.

You need to get an old fashioned PCMCIA Type I card. 16bit.. ISA..

Cardbus is like 32bit - PCI.

There are actually three versions of PCMCI. Type 1 should work in any slot. Some old machines have one T1 slot and one T2. If the new card doesn't work try the other slot.
Do you have machine specs? It might list slot types.

I did try and find out that information, but I failed to, in short. I imagine they are both Type 1, given the age of the machine, but I really have no idea, nevertheless I'm off to find a suitable card now.

Dont buy one.......

I have like 4 you can have that I believe are Yype I 16bit, but you need to get ahold of a dongle (you know the little thing that plugs into it to provide the connection, I'm sure someone has one lying around.....).

Okay so after my last post, I walk out my house, and go searching Manchester for an appropriate card, just to spend £30 (with something that now works, I might add) to find Nightshade' had turned up late to the party again, and offered me one. Just my luck.

Nevertheless, thanks Nightshade737 I would have taken you up on that if I hadn't already had ran out and picked one up. You da man.

Still, I did, so I can't, so I won't.

However, like I said, the 16bit Type 1 card I got works a treat, thanks for the info once again people. It goes to show, you don't stop learning stuff, especially round here.
