Well, seeing as most of us are electronic crazyheads how much are you shelling out each month?
Here in Arizona, it usually runs $30-$45 during the "winter" ( winter he says - ;D ), and $100 - $130 during the summer.

Shouldn't that be reversed? Ours gets really low in the summer.
I actually don't know numbers offhand. I know it's gone up about $30 since my brother and I have been home during the summer, probably mostly due to the oven being used more.

My parents pay a bit over $100 a month and we don't even have any A/C :bawling:
anyone know how much it costs ish to run a computer regularly?

I figured it out once. I wrote a whole paper for my mom, because she was pissed about our computers always being on. I did a bunch of math crap and it came out to be really low, something like $50 a year, idling most of the time, for my computer (2.8c, 9800pro, 2x256, three harddrives).
Maybe that was per month. But I don't think so, or she'd've whined about it being a lot.

A bunch of people have said it's around $4 a month per computer running 24/7 folding. Maybe it's in the folding FAQ or something. I don't remember exactly where it was but that would work out to $48 per year.
50 a year huh, wow i thought it would be more

Me too at first, but you have to remember, my computer, at full load, probably has never actually pulled more than 250 or so watts. A 500w PSU is never necessary, but always kinda nice. You could probably build a relatively new gaming computer (non-SLi) and still have it run on a 300 or 350. It might be cutting it close, but it can do it.

Our electric bills have averaged about $80 per month in my new house, which is strange because it's over 50% larger than the apartment CB and I share, and the bills are about the same. I expected to have higher bills with conditioning so much more space, but it's not the case. I'm not sure how it will end up in the winter, though, because we have a natural gas furnace.

Actually this thread got me thinking... how could my bill possibly be that high?
Looking at the bill the meter readings for last month read 1222 whereas the previous month read only 520. Very strange. Thats almost 3 times the electricity as the previous month.
I can only assume it is because the house I lived in at the time had poor insulation, and last month was hotter than most, so the AC was crunching away 24/7.
I have moved to a house with much better insulation, so hopefully that will make a difference.
My girlfriend pays utilities, I pay rent/mortgage, so I never really paid attention.

Maybe I should follow suit with these witty bastards (http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/nm/20050808/od_nm/china_theft_dc_1).
It would be an awefully dangerous splice.
Way more dangerous than my cable splice. ;D

Usually they only send the meter reader out a couple of times a year to get an actual reading. They estimate the bill for the other months of the year.
My electric bills seemed kind of low for the last few months, then I saw a place marked on the bill where it said "Estimated". They came around and actually read the meter this month and my bill was $270. I guess their estimate didn't take into account running nine computers in a 2BR apartment...

I just did some checking a month or so ago on what it is costing me to keep 8-9 fairly high end computers running and cool here in this dreadful Louisiana heat and humidity and it worked out to roughly $200/month just for the computer room.
I was having a low voltage situation with my house, with the electric Co's power only at about 224v being fed into my power panel, which is 16 volts lower than desired optimum voltage. While I had the breaker panel cover off, I checked the load on the 3 circuits I have run to the computer room and check out the amp draw on those 3 circuits (2 for the computers and 1 for the window unit) with a clamp-on ammeter.
Last month my electric bill was around $500, but that was before the electric company changed the transformer on the pole that was feeding my house due to the low voltage situation. I'll see what it is for this month soon, I imagine. Since they replaced the transformer, my power is at 238 volts into the breaker panel now.
i still live with my folks but it ranged ~$250-$350 a month

Mine is something like $140. I don't remember exactly. That's with my Athlon 3000+ running 24/7, ACs and fans all over the house and all hte basic electrical crap. We'll see what it is next month now that the Celeron is running 24/7.
Back when I lived on my own with my first roomate, it was $70 to $90, but generally around $70. With my cousin as my second roomate and him having to leave lights on everywhere when he is home or even not home, it was upwards of $140. Pissed me off to no ends I tell you..... especially since I couldn't really use any of his stuff being that it was in his room and not in the living on on the MUCH bigger screen TV I have like his Gamecube, and XBOX, and .... stuff!
ARG! ;D

Our lowest this year was about $35, actual, not estimated. Subsequent months have ranged up to $50 or $60. That's for a three story house. We draw very little power. Heating is via gas furnace, and the home is designed to let in a lot of natural light, which it does very well, even in winter. I've also replaced almost of the incandescent lightbulbs with compact flourescent bulbs. Makes a huge difference. We don't have air conditioning, and a disciplined about turning off unnecessary lighting. The home is also very well insulated, so the gas bill is not high and the power drawn to run the furnace motor is minimal.
