CNN (http://www.cnn.com/2005/US/08/16/computer.frenzy.ap/index.html) is reporting on a riot that broke out at the Richmond International Raceway in Richmond, VA during a sale of surplus and disposal iBook laptop computers from the Henrico County school system.

The Henrico County school system was selling one thousand 4 year old iBook computers which retailed for between $999 and $1,299 for only 50$.

People threw themselves forward, screaming and pushing each other. A little girl's stroller was crushed in the stampede. Witnesses said an elderly man was thrown to the pavement, and someone in a car tried to drive his way through the crowd.

That's sad... 4 year old notebooks worth fighting over?

The shirt... good idea, take a serious issue and make a shirt and sell it.... give the profits to the people that were injuried.

lol thats within a stones throw from my seat in my office right now, i was watching it on the tv's in the lunch room, 1 of the captions at the bottom was "got run over" when they were interveiwing people, now if it were 7800's for $50 id slay every one in my path and buy them all, but they had footage of people running and trampling people like war of the worlds was actually happening behind them.

Apparently they were used 12" ibooks with G3's around 500 MHz. They'd still probably be worth a $300-500 (not sure on the apple used premium ;)) and for people who couldn't afford a computer that's definitely a pretty tantalizing offer.

They'd still probably be worth a $300-500 Sure, if the Apple emblem is worth that much to someone. To some it is, to me, it's just a little plastic molding.

Just wait, there will probably now be lawsuits seeking damages for injuries caused in the riot. But of course, the lawsuits will directed at those with money, not necessarily the greedy idiots who ran with the herd.

Honestly, I find it sickening. People pissing themselves for a computer, hitting others with lawnchairs and trampling an old man. These people are fools. It's just sad.

Mactards. :shakehead

The school district should have put these up for auction. They would have gotten alot more money than just $50,000. I wonder how much they paid to rent the place for a day.
