August and Mars

I was searching through my moms email for any type of spam i can block with a rule, and i came accoss one very interesting emial, I wanted to ask if any one else on SM has heard of this before.

The way that the planets are turning around the sun ( not a complete circle but more of an oval ) that at the end of August ~25-28, mars will reach its closest point to the earth in millions of years, the email said that mars would be as big as the moon is. I find it a bit sceptikal, but it was just on my mind this morning, has any one else heard of this, because if its true i defintly dont want to miss mars being as big as the moon in the sky. The email didnt have any indication of spam, or "Stuud Pi11z" like my gmail account has. I just wanna know if its some sort of lame chain letter or i can throw a rock at mars from here.

I received an email very similar to that one but I cannot seem to find any real proof of Mars being that close. Anyone else?

It won't look as big as the moon, but it'll be pretty damn big.

Yeah, I remember it was on my birthday (27 aug) in 2003, that it came closer to earth than it had been in millions of years, or would be for thousands of years, or something to that effect.

It made me feel special :)

But, that was two years ago, and I don't feel special any more :(

You should be able to make it out with a good set of Binocs, and a clear sky of course.
