I do believe CDRWin is the best for making .ISO formats. But don't take my word for it. I just know all three of those are capable of making CD images.
Personally? I'm a fan of clonedisc's .CCD format. Does daemon support that yet?
I tried Alcohol 120% a few times, but it never seemed to perform on my PC quite like the rave reviews it got. Give A120% a shot though as it can do what you're looking for. In fact, I'd recommend that you try it first.
As for 60 seconds? I see all topics within 60 seconds of their posting between 4:15 PM and 12:00 AM. I'm always here on this page.

Yeah. It has for ages I believe.
Undisker is also a very nice ISO ripping and burning piece of software. Fast too.

120% is quiet nice, i used to to back up my warcraft3 perfectly, no CD cracys required.
Ooh Alcohol 120% does War3? I gotta try it then. I've been using a little lightweight demo called UltraISO just because it works... war3 didn't tho
I've also used Fantom CD (which does .ccd's and also serves as a CD image mounter for whatever format)... it didn't image too well though; could typically run a game with it but not install successfully.
BTW Thrax ya eat dinner or anything?

I've used DDump (free) to rip my Age Of Empire CDs so that I could mount them and play the game w/out always having to put my CD in. Alcohol120% I believe costs money. Don't know about the other options. I used Daemon Utils to mount the ISO as a drive.

I just use CloneCD and convert them to ISO with WinISO. Sometimes I use Alcohol 120% if it's hard to backup ;)

Nero will burn an ISO fine, but if you tell it to burn an image first to HD, that is the data file it uses to make an ISO from when you tell it to use the inage file and burn an ISO. Depending on Nero version, this should be OK with most.
Essentially, to save to HD, you end up with a data file for burning on the HD, then you tell it to burn an ISO to CDRW, then you tell Windows to copy file to HD, then you erase CDRW. You are correct that Nero does not save the ISO image itself on HD, it saves an image plus data on what the ISO is to look like.
I use Linux for this kind of thing where I want a pure ISO image on HD, easier. Sicne ISOs are the way Linux is distributed, Linux has tools built in to make ISOs and save to HD. As Lightning named one.

Nero doesn't defeat encryption technologies. DDump works fine on the software I've tried.
DirectISO or WinISO. They are rather user friendly unlike CD-R Win
