I'm such a horrible writer. I can never put my thoughts into words very well. I wish this weren't so, but it is, otherwise I'd be writing a bunch of those :p

All the articles are very professionally edited before publication, if you have some good ideas go ahead and send them.
If you want to run an article by me via PM before submitting it, I promise not to make fun of you. If one gets published you'll still get the whole fifty bucks, too. :D

Ten minutes ago you were all "I'd be writing a bunch of those". Then I eliminated your only excuse for holding out on us and you're going "I might do one sometime".
I'm giving you two weeks to have something turned in, then it's ass-whoopin' time! :rarr: ;D

I'm such a horrible writer. I can never put my thoughts into words very well. It's simply hard work. It's a craft that is developed just like woodworking, pottery, or stone masonry. The only way to become proficient is to write your first piece, then another, then another.

And not to take it personally if your editor corrects you or makes suggestions :) Constructive criticism eventually leads to good writing

I may have to just done go and right me an arcticle. I wunder if'n I'd git publiched?
It's too bad I don't know anything worth writing about. I could always use an extra fifty dollars. Plus, I could keep the editors busy! :)

They look like SAE cars, but they are WAAY faster. Pretty fun stuff though.

You know, Keebler, that that isn't exactly true. I submitted something but it didn't have enough words. :bawling:

It's too bad I don't know anything worth writing about.Bull! :p
That's the problem we all have... we forget that things that are fundamental "duh" things to us are usually enlightened instructions to the masses looking for info :) You have at least 10 articles you could churn out, you're just not thinking basic enough I bet :D
Leonardo

LOL. If my laptop cooler article wasn't basic enough, I don't know what is! If that contraption deserved web publishing, the rest of you guys have something to contribute as well. I'm not trying to discount anyone here. It's simple:
1. Writing is hard work. If the words don't break forth upon your first inspiration, then you are simply normal!
2. Creativity and craft are two different things. The creativity is easy, the sweat of writing is not. Look at all the brain dead 'journalists' in the news media. They may be dumb as rocks, but they can write! They worked hard at it and were determined to succeed.
3. Your silly little idea (like my butt ugly laptop cooler) will get someone's attention. I can assure you it will.
4. Getting your article torn to shreds by the editor is normal. Even Tom Clancy and William Safire have editors! It is not a hit against your intelligence. Half or my job is writing reports. I wouldn't think of submitting them to the boss with a sharp peer-editor ripping into them first.
Writing can be a lot of fun. It's very good exercise and recreation for the brain.

Excellent advice, Leonardo. :)
The main thing is to get started writing (my major failing...)
Put your ideas down on paper, no matter how random they come to you. Don't try and edit things as you go along. Once you have the whole thing scribbled out, go back and organize your thoughts in a logical manner. This is much easier once you have everything already laid out in front of you.
After that, read it out loud to yourself and fine-tune the way it flows from sentence to sentence, paragraph to paragraph. When you think you have a finished product, take it to a friend for their opinion - they will certainly spot things you missed.
Finally, submit it to the editor, a cruel and heartless man with no talent and no appreciation for art. Heck, he's probably a frustrated writer himself and became an editor out of desperation. Watch him rip the soul from your masterpiece and turn it into nothing more than another cookie-cutter one-size-fits-all piece of dreck. Collect your $50 and consider yourself lucky.
/me is kidding about the last part, except for collecting the money.

I prefer stream of consciousness writing...just write whatever you think about, and don't worry about connecting parts together until you get to a point where you get so off track that it's a whole other article. Yeah, it won't make a very good article, but it'll get some ideas on paper ;D
Leonardo
27 Aug 2005, 4:37am
Hey, you are correct. Stream of consciousness and brainstorming are valid devices for establishing a framework. But of course, afterwords you must stitch the pearls of wisdom into coherent chunks for your target audience to understand. :D
I could do something about 3DSMAX, but that may not work well.

Nomad: You do rendering right? I have no idea how that works at all. Do a basic image and show some of the tools used in making the rendered image.
