View Full Version : Can I play Halo 2 on my PC?
I started playing Halo 2 at someone else's house a while back, and they recently got Xbox Live so we can play against many other people. He says I should get an Xbox and a copy of Halo 2 and a Live subscription so I don't have to drive to his place all the time.
But being the cheap person that I am, I'm trying to get out the cheap way.
Is there any way I can play Halo 2 from my PC (XP Home, Barton 2500 @ 2.2, 9200 SE 128 MB video card)?
Perhaps this is a dumb question, but I thought I'd ask anyhow. I'm not interested in any other games besides Halo 2.

Not until they release Halo 2 for the PC. You can't take an Xbox disc and play it on a PC. You can play the original Halo on your PC, it's only like $20 or so these days.
Any idea when they might release Halo 2 for the PC?
I should also mention that when Halo 2 for the PC comes out, IF I get it I'd want to play in the live online games with it, not just on my computer with myself. I assume it'll have that capability, but wanted to mention it anyhow.
when they release it for PC, you will (at very least) need a video card upgrade. that 9200se isn't going to even come close to cutting it. plus you will want at least 1gb of system memory...all new games run much better with 1gb and some see a dramatic improvement with 2gb (bf2 for instance).

Keep in mind that its running on 64mb of ram modified geforce 2 (it has shader 1.4) and a celeron 733mhz cpu.
It will run fine on his curent rig when it comes out as long as he doesnt crank anything.
I don't think the current specs of his machine are going to matter much, at this stage there has been zero information about bungie porting Halo 2 to PC, if this ever happens it is years away, not months - by then he will most probably have a new machine.
At this point Halo 2 is an X-box only franchise neither M$ or Bungie have indicated or announced they will make a PC version available.

oh yeah??? that's why the 1st halo for pc played so well on low-end rigs???
it's not the same when it is ported to the pc platform....at least the 1st halo wasn't. you can bet halo 2 for pc will be a resource hog too....
that being said, you might get 640x480 with everything on low, but it won't be much fun.

Runs fine on my buddys celeron 1.8 256mb of ram and nvidia gf 4 mx440 he gets good framerate 800X600 res.
Either way. When the first Halo came to PC, it did not allow access to the X-Box Live! servers, it had it's own servers.
Your buddy is right. If you want to join him in his X-Box Live! games, then you have to get your own X-Box and Live! subscription. If it were me, I would just keep playing at his place.
Yes, I think I'll just keep going over there.
It's a 23 mile round trip to his place and back, or about $3.50-$3.75 worth of gasoline at today's prices. At that rate, I can play over there until spring and still save money on the deal.
The last thing I need is an excuse to sit in front of my TV all day long anyhow.
