I have an Yamaha recorder, an old one 8424 (8x4x24x) and suddenly it stoped working, the weird is that in BIOS is detected but on WinXP nothing appears.. weirdo..

is dead lens?

anyway, maybe its time to get a new one. :screwed:

I don't think you're :screwed: just yet... I had a similar problem with WinXP and a 16x Sony DVD in my grandfather's desktop today. Open it up, re-seat all the cables, clear the CMOS, put it back together, re-setup the CMOS, and boot into windows. See if that does it. If not, uninstall any remaining drives in the device manager, uninstall your IDE controller in the device manager, reboot, and hope it detects it. If all else fails, wipe it and start over. If none of that works, it's probably a dead drive.
