View Full Version : Sim City 4 Crashing

I recently installed Sim City 4.. and ran into a couple problems. The first one is that if I have folding running the game constantly minimizes to the desktop. I solved this problem by closing folding whenever I play sim city. I then played the game non-stop for a few days with almost no problems. Then it got a nasty habit. It will randomly without warning close the game. It simply exits to windows and the game is closed. I tried shutting down all background programs that I could and the problem persisted. It's almost like there's a trigger in the game that causes it to crash.

I was wondering if anyone else had expereinced something like this or if anyone could think of a possible fix. Thanks.

Comp specs:

Winchester 3500+
2x512 pc4000
2xraptors in raid 0
ATI X800xl

I have the latest catalyst and nforce4 drivers. Updated raid drivers and all current windows updates.

Thanks for any help...

Do you have the latest sim city patch?

Also, the graphical client does cause problems with minimization of directX games (or is it OpenGL, I can never remember). If you use the text-only version of folding and/or run it as a service, you will not experience those problems. It happens only with the graphical version.

The latest patch that I could find was 1.0.272 (here (http://www.gamershell.com/download_1808.shtml))

I installed the latest patch to the game, still crashes. I don't know if it matters, but it's the Deluxe version of the game.
