Anyone try it yet?

Just 'steamed' it today, and I must say it is a lot of fun. I just wasted away several hours playing.

It has some of the strategy of CS, but without the frequent 'observing' when you are not doing so well :D. Much larger scale, control point style gaming. Several different player roles to select, and some cool weapon choices..

I found myself selecting sniper a lot.. :Pwned:

DoD has more strategy than CS when orchestrated well
I used to play the original version years ago and I'm loving the source remakes of all the maps

fantastic

Yes, played for a few hours.

Once you get a few of the weapons / maps down, it becomes quite addicting.

Played it since 1.3, but I don't know if I want to spend $20 on a once free mod to play the same, now beautified, game.

I've never had more fun in the first few days of a games release than with DoD:s.

I never played the original, but I can see myself getting very competitive with it.

CAL-I baby.

Yeah I want to get it. Tho I am kinda upset that even tho I bought the collectors edition of HL2 in stores they wont let me get this for free. But oh well $20 isn't bad. Probably gonna buy it thursday.

Gahhhh..... I might get it. Used to play the original a bunch but I think I might be all HL'ed out. I played that crap for years.

I'm hooked worse than when I first posted this thread.. I questioned the $20 cost as well, but I'm glad I jumped on it :D

If you enjoy HL2DM, and any other multiplayer FPS games, you are sure to love this

From one crippling addicition to another. I thought I was bad with the HL2 : DM/CTF but DoD has me losing sleep. I logged a good 5 hours yesterday and can foresee a pretty heavy session goin down tonite.

It's got the gameplay of CS without the waiting until a new round to respawn. It may be short on maps (I'm already starting to crave a new one or two) but the dizzying fun more than makes up for its short comings.

they should be reintroducing all the old DoD maps, maybe 10 total. I can't wait for Caen

been playing it alot since it came out. I am upset at how the rifles were changed (the Garand and Kar are much more difficult to use now, no G43, have to choose bazooka man for a carbine as a secondary weapon) but I've gotten use to it now.

it's surprising how much a new engine can change a games popularity.

yeah I think I'll buy it sooner or later. I heard the recoil on guns is way too much

Got it too. Lots of fun.

If you already have Half-Life 2 bronze package, upgrade to silver and its only $10.

First time I played, I was a machine gunner, and tried to run around shooting moving targets.. it didn't go so well :sawed:

Kept shooting the clouds :D

why? because it makes the game actually take some skill to play? I'd rather have hard to aim weapons than the magical AK47 headshots that you get in CS

The MG is meant to be set up, not to be run-and-gunned with. Support, not assult.

Its for that reason with recoil that I left CS for Day of Defeat, I strive for realism and can take what I can get here and there.

TheBaron, if you're looking for really realistic gameplay, a unit I play with, the 3rd ID, has a server up at 70.84.181.236:27015. FF on, no deathcam, wep limits, coordinated movement.

http://www.3rd-infantry-division.net/ is our web address.

there used to be an organization for DoD called "Battle for Europe" or something like that. they set up a map with territories and you were assigned to either the Axis or the Allies, and every week you'd participate in a battle with a certain handicap depending on who was attacking and who was defending. they had all those features set the same way you're talking about, but you had pre-game practice and whatnot... I loved that stuff

actually, heres the website (http://dod.battleforeurope.com/)

I joined that, but never had much fun playing in it.

As it stands now, the 3rd ID and some outside help created something a bit similar for Call of Duty: United Offensive called The European Theatre of Operations (www.eto-league.com.) We are currently deciding on whether or not we should move the league itself to DOD:S or COD2, depending on where we want our audience to come from.

Its been a great success thus far in COD, and we're looking to continue it with wherever we decide to go, but from the sounds of it the theater would be right up your alley, as "realistic" as we could get COD to be, including an e-DDay complete with paradrops and beach stormings on custom maps.

nice! have you ever tried the Red Orchestra mod for UT2k4? fantastic, the best part about it was how you were basically forced to use the ironsights on most of the guns in order to aim at long distances. they added bullet drop over long distances, they removed all crosshairs (other than ironsights). I really enjoyed it

I'll check ETO out

We use a mod, PRM, for COD that does ultimately the same thing. The only thing it doesn't do is bullet drops, it could never be implimented properly without causing more harm than good. We don't allow run and gun style gameplay (particularly bunnyhopping), we remove crosshairs, encourage ironsights, and move in coordination with the rest of your unit. Most of the units that have joined are more into the realism style gameplay, completely against grenade spam and run and gun alltogether.
