I know nothing about Vorbis Ogg, infact: I only just heard of it today.

However, I find that I need to record in Vorbis Ogg for a project.

I've looked around the web for more information, but it all seems to be written for people who already know about it.

I'm a studio sound guy, I haven't done very much with computer-based sound. I can record WAVs with sound recorder, and convert them to MP3s with an Mp3 encoder (I had to do that even in the studio), but beyond that...

I guess I'm just lost without my studio booth...

I don't really understand the reason for all of these hundreds of sound formats. I go looking and I see all kinds of crazy names for different sound formats... I tried to search for an encofder that would just convert from MP3 or WAV directly to Vorbis, but all I could find were converters from file types with names like 'Monkey' (WTF, Mate?).

Can anybody help me out with, at least, some links to programs that have easy to understand websites...

I heard that Rareware was the place to get that stuff, but either that website is counterintuitively constructed, or I'm stupider than I was yesterday...

It might be both...

Well for starters it's Ogg Vorbis, not the other way around. Have you looked at http://www.vorbis.com/ the homepage? It's basically a free open source audio compression format (as opposed to MP3 which is not)

and check out their FAQs, you should be able to find the answers you need there http://www.vorbis.com/faq/

The Vorbis website seemed to mostly be about the development of Vorbis, not the use of it. However, I din't check out the FAQ yet. I'll do that now, and see if it helps...

Also, I meant to put this thread in the 'Digital media' Forum, not the 'Graphics and sound' forum, though I'm not sure if it really matters...

Probably best getting it from Vorbis' website and using the command line encoder, that way you know you have the latest version.
