Howdy folks. I'm getting an error message whenever I run Gaim. It reads the following:

Rate limiting error
The last action you attempted could not be performed because you are over the rate limit. Please wait 10 seconds and try again.

I'm running Gaim version 1.5 under Windows XP. I did a Goggle search and didn't find anything relevant. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Recently this has been happening to me as well. I'm running the Linux version; on Gentoo. I assume AIM recently changed something that conflicts with the way GAIM is designed. They'll probably have to patch it.

I've been recently having the exact same problem...except I'm using Adium for OS X. However, the error is precisely the same, and it occurs for no reason at all. I assume, therefore, that Adium uses GAIM as its AIM protocol. I can't find any solution to this.

When I run Gaim 1.5 in Linux I get the same error screen. I think AOL changed something with their protocol. I imagine the people working at Gaim are aware of it and we'll have it fixed for the next release of Gaim (http://gaim.sourceforge.net/index.php?id=162).

I'm pretty sure the problems with the "rate limiting error" are due to the fact that gaim reads everyones away message to put in the tool-tip box when you hover the users screenname, and also gets everyones buddyicon for the buddylist if you have it display them. I have the same problem, i havent bothered trying to fix it....except disable buddyicons in the buddylist...
