View Full Version : Life is too short...

So, I get to school today to see half the people crying. Now, if I see even one person crying, it makes me worried. This was bad.
Last night at around 8:30, Timmy (my grade, junior, and his last name escapes me right now) and Cody Kiel (a senior, riding along) got in an accident. Apparently a truck was backing out, kind of on the top of a hill where they couldn't see it. Tim swerved, and either hit the truck or flew off the road - nobody is too sure yet. Cody (who was wearing his seatbelt) was ejected from their truck and was killed instantly. Tim just has a fractured collar bone.
I, personally, didn't know him all that well. I'd talked to him briefly on occasion.. but.. damn. He was a funny kid, too. I felt bad because several of my friends knew him very well, and they were crying most of the day. All I could do was just try to comfort them, which I guess there isn't much you can do. I didn't know him well enough to cry, either.
But this kind of stuff really shakes things up. I mean, this is the third death in our highschool in as many years I think, and two of them have been in vehicles. We're so... fragile. Just say an extra, "I love you" to your kids or family today, or anyone who's really important to you. It could all end in an instant... :(

Terrible.. I think every school goes through this.
A few years ago, a popular student from my school died in an accident with an 18-wheeler. The student, Dustin I think, and an 18-wheeler were going down a divided highway (divided by a grass median) when the 18-wheeler's brakes locked up. The rig crossed over the median and into on-coming traffic. Dustin's truck was right there. Why him?
I remember earlier this year, a very tragic accident happened in one of our neighboring towns. A car full of teenagers was going down the highway at about 10mph over the speed limit (don't remember exactly, but I've spoken with one of the mothers and they weren't speeding by much). The driver, 16 I think, was drunk. A few people in the car died (don't remember how many), but the drunk driver... lived. The passengers were not wearing seat belts. I can't imagine what goes through that boy's mind every day. I doubt I could live like that.
^ Note about the 2nd story: I was attending a Defensive Driving course at Ryan's Steakhouse and the lady that sat next to me happened to be the mother of a best friend of the group of friends that were in that car.
Yeah had a few of these type of things throughout my education, even in College. Though in College no one I knew died, but while I was giving a presentation someone I knew very well had a seizure.
Life is short and very tough at times as well, but it has it's highs as well and it's best to remember the high times as well and not just the down times which is what many of us do becuase of our nature.

I know how you feel, entropy, when I was a freshman during the summer pror to my sophmore year there was a girl in my school that was beaten to death with a ball-peen hammer by a "friend" of hers that had serious mental problems.
I was lucky enough to know her, she was a really special person and very caring, sweet and always up and happy. The only fault she had was that she cared too much...this was the reason she was friends with the guy that killed her, simply because she wanted to help him with the problems he was going through.
It makes one wonder at times how there can be any reason to the universe.
Sorry to hear about what happened.

Most of the high-school deaths in my community were vehicle related as well.
A few years ago a 20-year old punk was driving his 14-year old girlfriend around and flipped the car or something... she died.
Almost every single teen driving death in my recent memory would probably have been avoided if the kid was wearing a seat belt.
Say "I love you" to your family, yes. And then buckle up.

Sho'nuf...
I really wish my father would wear a seat-belt, but he refuses. Especially since he was in an accident a few years ago, where the seatbelt would have meant his death, had he been wearing it (this only happens when the vehicle rolls). Mostly though, he just thinks it's inconvienient... :(

...only happens when the vehicle rolls, the roof or door caves in, and the occupant is not thrown from the vehicle (as did happen with that 14 year old girl). Coincidentally, my father was in a similar situation as your father a year or so after I was born - he would have had his head crushed by the roof if he had been wearing a seat belt at the time. Count him as lucky that time, I guess, because now he wears his seat belt all the time.

Cody was wearing his seatbelt. However, he had the seat reclined, so as best the cops can figure just yet, he slid out the top of his seat and out a window. The truck later landed on him...
Turns out Tim was doing around 90 coming over that hill. If he'd only been going 60 or so... but "if only's" don't get you anywhere.

Three weeks ago on Oct. 3rd i had a good friend that i've known since like kindergarten or first grade get ran over by a truck in a muddin accident. Not a lot of people knew him that didn't have classes with him but man i swear half the school was at his funeral. It really sucks when people die.
