I think im gonna try and build a (Extremely low) budget sempron system.

All i need is a case, mobo, cpu, and video. onboard sound and nic is nesicary onboard video would be better because then i wouldnt have to buy a video card since i wont be doing anything except program and surf the net on it.

so to my point...thoroughbred or palermo? i know the palermo is 90nm, and soc 754, but the thoroughbred has higher fsb and bigger cache.

Sweet, someone finally put a quote from me in their profile!

anyway, i would suggest the palermo 3300+, but it costs $127 and you said your on a low budget. If your willing to spend that much you might as well get a 64 2800+, but i guess you might as well stick with the thoroughbred.

If you think you will ever want to upgrade, pay a little more now and get a Socket 939 system.

If you are sure that this is a build-it-and-leave-it-alone computer, the AMD Sempron 64 3000+ (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819104241) (Palermo 800MHz FSB 128KB L2 Cache Socket 754 Processor - Retail w/ HSF) looks like it's in the sweet spot right now at $89. :)
