My Stupid Laptop

First off, I have a COMPAQ Presario X1000 wide-screen.
It was working fine until I turned it off and when I tried tuning it back on, the power button light is on but nothing happens. It charges because when I plug my charger in, the light comes on. I tried using an external screen but nothing happend.
Specs:
Windows XP home edition
Intel Mobile Centrino
40 gig
256 DDR
got it a year ago
Warranty expired

This might be a longshot, but see if the little switch on the top of the unit is stuck. I'm referring to the one which turns the screen off when the lid is closed.

If you know where the BIOS reset jumper is located you might try that, too.

to do that unpluge the laptop pull the battery out and hold down the power button for about a 60 sec.
