View Full Version : I Think I Have Hacktool.rootkit. Please Help! Options

I think my laptop is infected with hacktool.rootkit. When I try to load DAP (Download accelerator) Norton Antivirus 2005 quarantines "skvp.sys" - found in C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32. Norton then tells me the virus is hacktool.rootkit but can't remove it. I have tried several full system scans with Norton and others, also in safe mode. The file "SVKP.sys" does not exist on my computer as far as I can see.

The virus is not effecting my system performance or restricting my internet.

Any input would be great.

Thanks for the reply. Since I have posted this log I seem to be virus free. I have used lots of adware and reg cleaner programs and then uninstalled DAP and reinstalled a new version - and the virus alert stopped. This does not totally leave me confident that the virus has gone because Norton did not pick up any virus threats on a full scan, unless I tried to load DAP.

I have got spybot and Microsofts anti-adware program; and lots of others since the virus appeared.

Relating to the "few lines that could be fixed", I am totally new to HiJackThis until last week, so i dont know if you could explain it breifly or know a good website that will; it seems like a very useful program to know.

I would not worry about the "virus" as there are plenty of internet posts that say this is a false positive.

As to the "few lines that could be fixed", what you need to do is check the box next to these entries when you run HijackThis. After they've been checked you will click on the "Fix" button near the lower left of the window. Once you do that do another scan and post the results. I'm betting you will have a clean log. :thumbsup:

My friend laptop has just been infected with "spy sheriff". I think Microsoft antispyware tried to stop it, but his background is now unchangeable.

The background is blue with a black box inthe centre stating "you are infected with spyware".

Please help.
