The Inq: The P4 3.2ghz EE "Emergency Edition" Is still Dual MP Capable

PR announcements aside, there is a really interesting bit of oversight. It seem that the P4EE processors are as of now still capable of multi-processing like their Xeon counterparts. Sources say the Xeon people are livid that a faster CPU with a faster FSB is available at a $3000 discount to their wares. Get them while they are, wait for it, hot.

The P4 3.2ghz EE is to be ~$750 while the Xeon version is >$3500!

I know I'd feel like Intel had ripped me a new one if I purchased Xeons and then this chip came out and cost so much less.

But they are different. I'm sorry, but enterprise customers don't "build" computers. They buy them from major OEMs. And when they buy 2- and 4- way Xeon database servers, they DO want the Cache ECC that has been disabled for the EE. And major OEMs aren't going to say "Hey you ripped us off" because it's not a ripoff to have a $3500 processor in a $125,000 computer.

True.

But It'll be a great (Intellite) enthusiast bargain though if Intel doesn't fix the first batch. Also they may have done that on purpose. The Opteron 246 are ~$800 too. The upcoming 248s (2.2ghz) shouldn't be too much higher.
