Its more jrotc. but was anybody else in rotc in high school? Our school has a AFJROTC, (air-force) and it's pretty awesome. we dont do much work, drill (march) and watch movies, and play on the computers. we've had people make-out in the room when our chief or colonel are out of the room. It's kinda crazy in their. We've had people do worse than that IN the room. and we don't do that well at drill cometitions, (wonder why.) but we have a good time, and party our asses off.
We have 2 formal events per year, one being the military ball, which is coming up Dec. 16th (already have my date) and its about 30 minutes of talking and introduceing the keystaff (myself included, Major, Commander of Information.) and then untill 12 or so its dancing non-stop. I dont mean slow dancing i mean 1 step away from a mass orgy dancing. Since it's the military ball not many teachers show up and they dont dare stop us. cause we are almost unstoppable. and then their are usually afterparties.
Then we have the Military Banquet. It is strictly dinner and handing out awards. It is a closed function, unlike the ball. Only the cadets and their family are allowed. But we still throw a few funny, but acceptable pranks and jokes in. Since the commanders of Vance AFB are present we try to keep it as formal as possible and make our commanders look good, cause we like them.
I was just wondering if anyone else was in JROTC in HS and is it was as "relaxed" as this is. cause I can hardly believe this is the norm. Let me know your stories.
I was in the Army JROTC for all four years. It was pretty fun the first couple years, but then the last two years the juniors and seniors had class together with the SAI and so it sucked as he wanted us to not be highschool students and yet we were.
The second year was the most fun as we had SGT Saunders as our AI and he had such great stories. My first year AI was cool, SGT Rivera but he had to leave for hitting on one of the 9th grade girls..... yeah... so anyways he was pretty cool, and had good taste too, but he was too old for his tastes I guess :o
The guy who replaced him was cool as hell too, in that military bad ass kind of way. He reminds me of the SGT Major in the movie We Were Soldeirs with Mel Gibson, the guy who was Mel's second hand man.... the bad ass with the pistols. Yeah, that was this guy. Awsome.
1st SGT Saunders was a Marine who became a Army Ranger somehow. He was in for a while, such great stories! Some you knew you shouldn't laugh, but couldn't help it, so crazy.
The SAI Major Adams, the hardcase. He was pretty cool too, in his own way. I liked him, he really tried pushing us to be our best. I tell you what. This man could run for miles and not break a sweat in the horrid humid texan climate that is the South Texas thing. Not a damned bead of sweat. Not even out of breath! I mean he was a damned robot, it realy freaks me out thinking of it.
So yeah, I have some memories. Good times, the only good times I really had in HS.

so no crazy partying or anything of that nature. since you went to high school a while back it wasnt exactly acceptable to watch movies in class. and all that kinda stuff.
Chief Rollins, we just call him chief is a black dude. He was a CMSgt and he's really awesome. not to many stories. but we had some fun with him last year at the miltiary banquet. He was with his life and I got dared to go up and say to chief:"Chief!, your wife isn't fat, why did you say that?" and then I introduced myself to her, and chief was out of words, when i turned around they said she elbowed him right in the ribs. He didn't say that about her.
And Colonel Hollingsworth, is about 50ish, he's cool. not much to say about him except he know's something about the auoara project and he wont say anything about it. I caught him offgaurd one day and just asked him about it and he started to say something about it and then shut up real quick. Said he couldn't talk about it.
JROTC is a good launching program for a military career if you choose to act like a soldier and are not just there to party.
My son was in Army JROTC al four years of high school. He was battalion commander for his high school his senior year as well as brigade commander for the entire County.
My son went on to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point where he graduated this year and is now a 1st Lt. in the Army.
JROTC should be "fun", but it's not intended to be a party. It's one of those things where you will get OUT of it what YOU put IN to it.

That is quite an achievement. Sounds like the ol' man raised him right and that he was sharp enough to respond in an exemplary manner. You both deserve to be very proud. :respect: :respect:

JROTC a party? On average it was mediocre for me. Then again, our program suffered from low enrollement, and the rules were later changed so that schools my size (small - about 1000 students total) couldn't get JROTC programs anymore.
I spent 3 1/2 years in Army JROTC in high school, all but my last semester. I spent most of my time as battalion S-3, but also spent some time as Alpha company commander and my last semester as battalion XO. I asked not to be battalion commander my last semester because I knew I wanted to change out of the program, and I didn't want to leave the battalion hanging.
There were some fun things, like the orienteering meet in San Antonio, watching Patton with commentary by our eccentric 1SG and LTC, and summer camp at Fort Sill (although I may not have called summer camp fun at the time). But usually it was boring. We had unmotivated LET-1s (who were mostly taking the class to fullfill their PE requirement), and we (cadet leadership) didn't get much support from our instructors. If I had it to do over again, I still would have enrolled in JROTC, I just wouldn't have stayed in it so long. I got most of what I was going to get out of it in the first two years. I learned much more useful things that last semester when I switched to debate. I didn't enroll in college ROTC because I lost interest in a military career. The only thing I wanted to do was fly A-10s, and my vision started to worsen towards the end of high school.
To close, I encourage EVERY high school student to enroll in speech/debate for at least a semester. Learn useful (or freakin' critical, if you're of my opinion) speaking skills, and mingle with intelligent and (usually) attractive girls that are in need of distraction on the long bus drive home from a tournament. :D
I do find it a little amusing that AF-JROTC is a big party and ARMY-JROTC was mostly work. Don't suppose any parallels could be drawn to the active duty? ;D

I had a friend who was fond of saying "I never served in the military, I was in the Air Force." :p
The fact that you and your 'compatriots' have allowed your local JROTC chapter slide into desparity reflects on your ethic as a whole. In short, it's pathetic and you should honestly quit so as to stop embarrassing other people who put an honest effort forth in JROTC. You should feel honored by the fact you actually have JROTC at your school.

We have rotc at our school but not many ppl are it in and it doesnt have a very good status in our school. That might be because its hasnt been around for a very long time (i think 3 years) but i did want to join it, for a while and i dont kno, it might have been fun

Our unit ok-962 was formed in '96 which is the reason for the 96 in 962, the 2 is for the second unit formed that year.
We do work and we drill. we know how to act, and we do what our commanders tell us to do. we have had around 48 scholarships to the airforce/navy/ and army academy in the past 4 years. And on the asvab we score pretty high. last year I scored an 84 on my asvab which is higher than a lot of the enlisted men. your have to have an 18 I think to get into the army, which is the easiest and a 31 for the air-force, the hardest. with a 52 i believe you are elligible for any ocupation in the armed services. but we do have a good time and we do have times when all we will do is drill for a week at a time. then go to competition. and kick ass. we've had first place out of tri-state drill competitions. in both armed and un-armed drill.
and for hard work our commanders reward us. and there is a lot of paperwork that has to be done with me being a group commander and if i get my office jobs done then chief is happy.

So which is it? You don't do well at drill competitions or you kick ass?
I get the impression that the latter post is an attempt to cover up the first post.

good job finding my contradictions i figured someone would. it more depends who is at the competion, and how well we've been practicing.
If we dont drill hard at practice and make ourselves better, then no we dont. but if we do practice well then we do ok.
the main factor is of who is at the drill comp. we've had people from okinawa before and at that base, they drill there asses off and we looked like a bunch of 5 year olds. if its only a few local people, then yeh, we're better than them.
cover up my first post. nah. if i wanted to cover it up, i wouldve used the EDIT button. and i dont care about what people think about me or my rotc unit. well, i do, but you guys dont personally ever see us nor do you have any bearing on our performance. anyways. why would i want to cover anything up? woulde there be any motive? no. its more of a matter that i forgot what i wrote the first time. i didnt even remember writing bout the drilling, otherwise, i wouldnt of wrote anything about the drilling.

i spose. thats what it all boils down to isnt it? funny thing life is. not to many things keeping us going, but those few are strong enough to pull is through our weakest times.
