I just got my new issues of MPC and they decided to do the super bowl of tests showing low end and High end of PC components, Now If I have ever seen a A#$ handed to someone it was Nvidia serving ATI it’s A#$ on a silver platter along with AMD doing the same to Intel. MPC took 7800GT and 7800GTX vs. both the X1800’s and showed us that they are not all ATI said they would be. Also The took AMD’s low range 3800+ X2 with the midrange 4400+ and the uber 4800+ vs. Intel’s Pent D line up… I was just unfair. Than they took the High end single core CPU’s like the FX-57 and yet again another A#$ whooping from AMD I mean this was the wood paddel with freaking holes the size of you mama A#$ whooping.....
I mean I hate to rub it in guys, but I am just happy to see results like these as I run all these products and It help reassure me I build with the best of stuff Now we can all only hope Intel will come out with a competitive line, and that ATI wont fail with the R580! But May is just around the corner for Nvidia what do they have in store for us? DX-10, and Pixel Shader 4.0? Along with AMD they are being so quite it scares me… maybe they are going to get a huge benefit from DDR2? And these new line of chips that we don’t know much about, what are they going to be like? Who knows at this point? All’s I know if it is anything like the A64 series release Intel yet again will keep loosing market share no matter how small they can make there core size…

I can say I love my X850 vs my 6600gt but thats nly because i paid 67 bucks to upgrade! haha

The report did not compare a 6600 or a X800 as that is older tech! :)

;D ~ Warning FanBoyisum ~ ;D
:D You have been warned that this text is full of bias and fanboyish remarks please proceed with caution! :D
ATI got shafted 2 times in a row, I may be bias in that statement but TBH I really don't care :) It has been Nvidia 2 times now that has kept the crown from ATI will it be a 3rd? With the R580? In all the reports I have seen and heard from my contacts in the Graphics chain is that Nvidia once again will have a superior product with the next Gen cards. Yes I know it is way to early to tell but I just have that feeling once again Nvidia is folding things right... again.... I mean doing things right!
So you know I do own my fair share of ATI graphic cards , But I do own allot more Nvidia cards and just find that Nvidia is just the Double Eagle of Graphics at this point in time.... and most of my ATI cards have found there way into the garage sale bag of clubs!
Note to self "dont use golf terms when talking about PC's?
Currently I have no desire to buy ATI until I can be promised that their card will last half as long as my NVidia in terms of actual LIFE EXPECTANCY. It just seems that evvery.... READ: EVERY DAMNED NVIDIA CARD I have ever owned could quite possibly still be running to this day had I not gotten rid of them. As for ATi, well I get the exact opposite. They'll last for a bit, then just crash and burn. That is if it worked properly in the first place.
As for intel..... I have no real quarrels with them. I just like AMD better ;D
So yeah, one day ATi will have the better card out once again, but for now NVidia is my baby.
I have a 9700 Pro, 9800 Pro and 9800 XT in my home that are all older than 18 months. Were they the best at the time? Yes. Will they be around for some time more? Yes. Given the present market, would I buy ATI now? No.
even tho i am currently ATi Powered (x200 m lappy) ive always preferred nVidia, theyve just always seemed like higher quality to me. Especially their drivers
Forceware>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>catalyst
nVidia pwnz
Higher quality, except for those four whole fiscal quarters where the 5x00 series was their only offering.. :range:
I'm completely indifferent to both
I have an ATi 9600 Pro Turbo in my 8600 Lappy - rock solid, never a hitch.
I use a BFG 6800 Ultra OC in my workstation, again, solid as a rock, games like nobody's business.
My desktop (the one I plannned on selling - antoher story, indeed) is running a P4 3.0 800. My Asus MoBo automatically overclocks the proc to 3.315 without a hiccup.
My experience with AMD procs is still almost nill, I still plan on building a new AMD rig, but not till I finish school in April.

This argument seems to go back and fourth year to year give or take with these 2 companys.
I have been loosely following it since the Geforce 4 was stompped by the 9700 Pro. Before that I was a 3DFX (RIP) fan, and naturally HATED nVidia for causing me to have to buy ANOTHER vidcard right after buing that 3DFX 3500 so I could run games on winXP I still say damn you nVidia for that little stunt.
First nVidia was better, then ATI, then nVidia, and on and on and on.
So right now, today I would buy nVidia, but I just saw an article somewhere that says ATI's next chip will blow away nVidia's current fastest which is what the 7800GTOCX or whatever?
This kind of competition between our favorite video card manufacturers is great for us.
I wish there were a couple more companys making new products in this market as prices would surely drop.

I wish there were a couple more companys making new products in this market as prices would surely drop. That's the truth! I think there's much better value for the money in top end CPUs than in high end video cards. But, with Nvidia and ATI, the second generation cards are still very good performers for somewhat reasonable prices. With CPUs, Intel prices have moderated significantly due to demand for AMD.

I found the key words in the statement... see the problem is by the time ATI release's that Card Nvidia will already have there next Card to trump the R580!

Number 9 Reality 332 is where it's at.
well it didnt help ATI that SLI is/was copywrited. also i love ATI's drivers over nVidias, but im just armo. teh 9800pro was probably the best card ive ever owned, sure i use a 6800gt but the 9800pro will always have a place in my cold black heart
Armo, that makese no sense. :p

The performance crown shifts back and forth all the time in the big races. I don't give a damn. Ever.
What I do care about is a good price to performance ratio. Right now AMD has it on pretty much everything they put out, with the exception perhaps of mobile chips (if you compare performance in that league on how cool it runs and how much wattage it uses then the Pentium M is king right now).
Even though nVidia has the performance crown in GPUs, that's not what would make me buy one. I'm not interested in spending $500 on a video card. I would buy an nVidia right now, and I'll tell you what it is: I'd buy a 6600GT without hesitation, because of the very favorable performance/price ratio of that GPU. Now, if a 7800GTOCX could be had for $277 right now, as I paid for my 9800 Pro back when it was king of the world, then I'd consider it on the right side of the curve for price-to-performance. As it stands, I don't consider the card at all, king-of-the-graphics-wars-hill or no.
Also in this issue... Josh Norem talks about the performance/ Temp difference between thermal pads, and other thermal pastes... His conclusion... no real difference.... (See Page 70...)
Yah... right. I know my laptop and about 5 others are much cooler with Artic Silver over the OEM thermal pads!!!!

Yeah, but you use your computers for something useful (http://www.joinfolding.com), not just typing out lame reviews in Notepad... ;D

lso in this issue... Josh Norem talks about the performance/ Temp difference between thermal pads, and other thermal pastes.. I haven't had time to read the article, but it's my guess that 1) he doesn't know how to properly apply thermal paste, or 2) he used cheap silicon-based paste. From personal experience, I can attest there is a huge difference between silver-based paste and silcon-based and thermal interface pads.
