aight. hi, first time user (finally got logged in), and im here to tell you my troubles. it started a while back when yahoo messenger would not open, so i deleted it and got trillian messenger. problem solved. now my itunes will not open. a problem not as easily solved. i was getting the postmortem debugger error, so i did some googling and figure that i have a virus. i deleted drwatson, but itunes still will not open. i've redownloaded and reinstalled it countless times, it all works, and then when i try to open it the user license agreement flashes and goes away, and nothing happens after that. any help would be appreciated. gracias!

just to add another teensy problem; a while back when i was running spybot, i think i deleted winsync. now every time i restart i get this funky little diddy:
Spybot-Search & Destroy has detected an important registry entry that has been changed.
Category: System startup global entry
Change: Value deleted
Entry: winsync
Old data: C:\WINDOWS\system32\ppioiy.exe reg_run (thats all i can see)
New data:

Hi, Welcome to Short-Media :)
Please follow the steps below
--
Step 1
Please move HJT from your Desktop to its own folder on your C: so backups can be created. Do this before continuing.
Step 2
We need to DISABLE SpyBots TeaTimer as it may interfere with the fix.
1) Run Spybot-S&D
2) Go to the Mode menu, and make sure "Advanced Mode" is selected
3) On the left hand side, choose Tools -> Resident
4) Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts
5) Exit SpyBot
Step 3
Run HiJackThis then:
1. Click "Open the Misc Tools Section"
2. Click "Open Process manager"
-
Next, while holding down the CTRL key, locate (if present) and click on (highlight) each of the following:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ppioiy.exe
Now double-check and make sure that only those item(s) above are highlighted, then click "Kill process". Now, click "Refresh", check again, and repeat this step if any remain.
Step 4
Check the following in HJT and click 'Fix Checked' - Close ALL open Browsers first
R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {4D25F926-B9FE-4682-BF72-8AB8210D6D75} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {4D25F921-B9FE-4682-BF72-8AB8210D6D75} - (no file)
O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {BA52B914-B692-46c4-B683-905236F6F655} - (no file)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [winsync] C:\WINDOWS\system32\ppioiy.exe reg_run
O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {CD67F990-D8E9-11d2-98FE-00C0F0318AFE} - (no file)
Step 5
View hidden files and folders - explained here (http://www.xtra.co.nz/help/0,,4155-1916458,00.html)
Step 6
Find and Delete the following - if present:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ppioiy.exe << this file
Step 7
Reboot your computer
Don't forget to Enable SpyBots TeaTimer!!!
Read the following
You are missing one important program on your computer: An Anti-Virus.
You need to install an Anti-Virus program as soon as you can and run a complete scan of the computer.
I suggest one of these (both have relatively small demands on the computer):
Nod32 : http://www.nod32.com/home/home.htm
or
AVG Anti-Virus (Free version available) http://free.grisoft.com/doc/1
Choose one, install it, and then run a full scan. Let it quarantine/delete anything it finds. Let me know if there is anything that it reports but can not remove.
It is important that you use a software firewall, to prevent unauthorised traffic both out of and into your computer.
Your log doesn't show a firewall running. If you have disabled it, please re-enable it.
If you do not have a firewall installed, please download and instal one of these excellent (and free) products: Zone Alarm (http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/company/products/znalm/freeDownload.jsp) or Sygate (http://smb.sygate.com/products/spf_standard.htm)
It is important to note that you should only have one firewall installed at a time, but you can download both to your Desktop and install each in turn to see which one you prefer.

alright.
I:
moved HJT to its own folder
disabled teatimer
ran HJT process manager, and couldnt find ppioiy.exe
deleted the other 5 entries you said to delete
"viewed" or enabled viewing of hiddin files and folders
still couldnt locate ppioiy.exe
rebooted
no resident thingy popped up, but there are some weird semi-opaque (like they've been cut) icons on my desktop.
4 jpegs: AlbumArt_{EEB8E463-E016-4D8E-B8B8-5AEA3D658DFC}_Large
AlbumArt_{EEB8E463-E016-4D8E-B8B8-5AEA3D658DFC}_Small
AlbumArtSmall
and Folder
they are all albumarts of some guy and they say "tonex/o2"??
there is also a semi opaque "configuration settings" file named desktop that reads:
[.ShellClassInfo]
FolderType=MusicAlbum
MusicBuyUrl=http://windowsmedia.com/redir/buynow9.asp?providerName=AMG&albumID=EEB8E463-E016-4D8E-B8B8-5AEA3D658DFC&a_id=R%20%20%20585090&album=O2&artistID=F24E5261-D242-4A6B-9607-9A6DC36B10EE&p_id=P%20%20%20416882&artist=Tonéx&locale=409&geoid=f4&version=10.0.0.3646&userlocale=409
if i try to delete any of these files, it says that they are system files. should i just delete them anyway?
after that junk, i d/led AVG and Zone Alarm,
installed both
ran AVG scan, which found nothing
set up the firewall
re-enabled teatimer, which in turn made the resident thingy about ppioiy.exe pop up again, and also one about "O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {BA52B914-B692-46c4-B683-905236F6F655} - (no file)"
and now i'm here.
thank you so far.
EDIT:btw, reinstalled itunes and it still only makes it to the user license agreement before it decides its had enough.
also, when i started opera today, zone alarm said that ppioiy.exe was trying to access the internet.
thanks~

We need to DISABLE SpyBots TeaTimer as it may interfere with the fix.
1) Run Spybot-S&D
2) Go to the Mode menu, and make sure "Advanced Mode" is selected
3) On the left hand side, choose Tools -> Resident
4) Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts
5) Exit SpyBot
--
Check the following in HJT and click 'Fix Checked' - Close ALL open Browsers first
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {4D25F921-B9FE-4682-BF72-8AB8210D6D75} - (no file)
--
Open killbox and paste in C:\WINDOWS\system32\ppioiy.exe
With the full path to the file name in the topmost textbox, click the option *Delete on Reboot*
Click the Red X ...and for the confirmation message that will ask you to reboot now, click YES.

Download Registrar Lite from here:
http://www.resplendence.com/download/reglite.exe
Put it in its own folder. You may want to keep this program. It is an excellent free, registry editor.
Copy and paste the follow text into the address bar, then hit 'Go':
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\URLSearchHooks
In the pane on the right are the values associated with that key.
We want to remove this one >
{4D25F921-B9FE-4682-BF72-8AB8210D6D75}
Right click on it and select delete.
If you get a confirmation question, respond OK then close out of the program.
Reboot and post a new HJT log

OK. Let's go :).
Download Pocket KillBox from here (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/killbox.php). There is a Direct Download and a description of what the Program does inside this link.
Please open Notepad, and copy/paste the code in the box below into a new text file. Save it as KillQoo.reg (set Filetype to "All Files") and save it on your Desktop.
REGEDIT4
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\*\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\mmnkngtt]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
"winsync"=-
*NOTE!! When I have posted the above regfix, the software here will automatically create a space after about the 50th character. You must make sure there are no spaces before saving it and merging with your registry.
Open Pocket Killbox and Copy & Paste the entries below into the "Full Path of File to Delete"
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ppioiy.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\kkeke.dll
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\oohq.exe
C:\Documents and Settings\Goldbond\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\oohq.exe
As you Paste each entry into Killbox, place a tick by any of these Selections available
"Delete on Reboot"
"Unregister .dll before Deleting"
Click the Red Circle with the White X in the Middle to Delete!
Restart in Safe Mode and Run those files through Killbox once more to be sure nothing survived.
This time place a tick by any of these selections available
"Standard File Kill"
"End Explorer Shell while Killing File"
"Unregister .dll before Deleting"
Now Locate and DoubleClick KillQoo.reg-> Allow it to merge into the Registry!
Restart back in Normal Mode and Post a fresh HijackThis log!

Can you please do the following.
===============
We'll need to unload Spybot's Teatimer before we begin. To do this can you start Spybot and go to Tools > Resident and uncheck the box next to Tea-Timer. Make sure that the icon in the system tray is no longer there. If it is, just right click on it and select "Exit". Do not forget to re-enable it when we are done :).
===============
Scan with HiJackThis, click "Scan", then check(tick) the following, if present:
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {4D25F921-B9FE-4682-BF72-8AB8210D6D75} - (no file)
O4 - Startup: Folding@Home 5.03.lnk = ?
Now, close all instances of Internet Explorer and any other windows you have open except HiJackThis, click "Fix checked".
===============
That should do you :).

That's not a problem :). It looks like a broken shortcut, that is what I was having hijackthis fix. If you reboot the entry may well be gone anyway. If not, do not worry :).

well... that folding one is now giving me an error, im noticing it when i come back to my computer after a long period of time. after i choose whether or not to report it it closes down FAH and i have to start it back up. it might have something to do with sending the info back after completing a WU??? but, it still is folding anyways... dunno.

alright i got 5.02, but i guess when it tried to send results Zone Alarm popped up and asked whether or not to allow it. it didnt have a program name, just an ip and port#, so i clicked deny.
now im not sure how to go back in and allow it in zone alarm since it isn't an .exe
This is an example of what the FAHlog is saying about it:
[11:27:21] + Attempting to send results
[11:27:21] - Couldn't send HTTP request to server
[11:27:21] + Could not connect to Work Server (results)
[11:27:21] (171.64.122.130:8080)
[11:27:21] - Error: Could not transmit unit 01 (completed December 22) to work server.
and
[16:03:02] + Attempting to get work packet
[16:03:02] - Connecting to assignment server
[16:03:17] + Could not connect to Assignment Server
[16:03:32] + Could not connect to Assignment Server 2
[16:03:32] + Couldn't get work instructions.
[16:03:32] - Error: Attempt #39 to get work failed, and no other work to do.
Waiting before retry.
could you guys help me?
thanks.

I'm not the best person to help here but if you start a thread in the Folding@Home (http://www.short-media.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=14) Forum then alot more people will be able to help as the thread will be seen by everyone :)
