Hi guys,
I've got infected by some pop-up plague that is difficult to remove. It has blocked my tryings of Trend Micro and Panda online (does not allow Active-X to install), has overcome AVG online, and is giving me hell.

Here are the ewido and HJT logs, both from this afternoon:

This is what I could write down during last ewido scan (under loud sirens):

mvftedit.dll
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32
Spyware.Look2Me
----------------------------
[1796]C:\Windows\system32\mvftedit.dll
[1996]C:\Windows\system32\mvftedit.dll
C:\Windows\system32\jnaw400.dll
C:\Windows\system32\r0r6la9s1d.dll
C:\Windows\TEMP\Cookies\mauro@ad.yieldmanager[1].txt

Don't know if this may add to your helping me...

Thanks, anyway.

Hi,

Download L2mfix from one of these two locations:

http://www.atribune.org/downloads/l2mfix.exe
http://www.downloads.subratam.org/l2mfix.exe

Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop. Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

if you receive, while running option #1, an error similar like: ''C:\windows\system32\cmd.exe
C:\windows\system32\autoexec.nt the system file is not suitable for running ms-dos and microsoft windows applications. choose close to terminate the application.."...then please use option 5 or the web page link in the l2mfix folder to solve this error condition. do not run the fix portion without fixing this first.

Close any browsers and programs you have open since this step requires a reboot.

From the l2mfix folder on your desktop, double click l2mfix.bat and select option #2 for Run Fix by typing 2 and then pressing enter. It will process then start. Your desktop and icons will disappear (this is normal). L2mfix will continue to scan your computer and when it's finished, it will be ready for a reboot. Press any key to reboot. After the reboot notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it back into this thread, along with a new hijackthis log.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other files in the l2mfix folder unless you are asked to do so!
If after the reboot the log does not open double click on it in the l2mfix folder.

Good man Trogan,
thanks for the tips. Will do all next Monday, because the infected 'puter is the one at the office.
Have a good weekend rest on my case, you may well deserve it, so many issues you try to solve for us.
Thanks agains.
Yours,
Mauro

Just an observation: for all I know, "CottnCal.exe" is harmless, it's the command for a nice agenda of dates I have; same to "Kyescan.exe", being a command for my table scanner device. Regarding "gbiehuni.dll", I have no clues. Perhaps we should play safe, here.

Thanks for the info so far :)

Do you know what these are?

C:\Arquivos de programas\ScannerP\Kyescan.exe
C:\Arquivos de programas\Anti-BO\Anti-bo.exe
--

As for gbiehuni.dll having no info, I think we should remove it...

Check the following in HJT and click 'Fix Checked' - Close ALL open Browsers first

O2 - BHO: G-Buster Browser Defense Unibanco - {C41A1C0E-EA6C-11D4-B1B8-444553540008} - C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\gbiehuni.dll
--

Find and Delete the following:

C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\gbiehuni.dll << this file
--

Reboot and post a new HJT log :)

Ok, let´s see:

First one is my scanner executable; second one is an Anti-BO device, and it is ok.

The next file relates to my bank's software. I would not imagine they could be infected or corrupted but will eliminate them anyhow, just for the sake of cleanliness. If necessary, they will D/L again when I use the bank.

Will do that next morn and let you know. Thanks pal, for all that patience.

Good "MANUTD Man" Trogan,

looks like they are all gone. Trendmicro finished all the remaining bits this morning. And ewido and AVG at last did not find infected files.

You and that small DOS program did a wonderful job. Congrats to both.

I ran another check and after that I did it again, just in case, after having reconnected to the web.

Perhaps they will let me in peace during Holidays.

Many thanks for all your criterious and patient work.

Will raise a full glass in your behalf and on those poor Liverpoolian hooligs.

Cheers, have a wonderful New Year!
Mauro

Can I mark this thread resolved?

Now that your PC is clean you need to follow these easy steps to keeping it this way:

Secure your Internet Explorer by going here (http://bshagnasty.home.att.net/browsersettings.htm) and following the instructions there.

Better yet, use an alternative browser! Download FireFox (http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/) and give it a run. It is far more secure than Internet Explorer. Or, you can get Opera (http://www.opera.com/download/) which in my opinion, is better still.

Use a firewall to help prevent your PC's control being usurped by undesireables.

Install and keep updated, Ad-Aware SE, (http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/) and Spybot S&D. (http://www.computercops.biz/zx/phoenix22/spybotsd13.zip)
Run them both on a regular basis, following the manufacturer's recommendations.

Install and keep updated, SpywareBlaster 3.4 (http://short-media.com/download.php?dc=69)

Install an anti-virus. There are some good, free AV's available today. Make sure that it is updated regularly and have it scan your system often.

Check for Windows Updates. (http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/) Microsoft regularly post updates for your systems safe running. Make sure to take advantage of this. Reboot when installed and return to make sure there are no others.

Clear your Temp folders.
Clear out your Temporary internet files and other temp files.
Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel >Internet Options.
Under the General tab click the Delete temporary internet files,
delete all Offline content as well. Clear out Cookies.

Also, go to Start > Find/search > Files or folders > in the named box, type: *.tmp and choose Edit > select all -> File > delete.

Empty/delete the entire contents of the C:\Windows\temp folder and C:\temp folder, if you have one. (Contents but not the folder itself.)

C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temp\

In order to view these files you may have to select 'show hidden files/folders.' Instructions on how to here. (http://www.xtra.co.nz/help/0,,4155-1916458,00.html)

Empty the Recycle Bin.

For XP users.
After something like this it is a good idea to Flush the Restore Points and start fresh.
To flush the XP system Restore Points.

Go to Start>Run and type msconfig. Press enter.

When msconfig opens, click the Launch System Restore Button.
On the next page, click the System Restore Settings link on the left.

Check the box labelled 'Turn off System restore'.

Reboot. Go back in and Turn System Restore Back on. A new Restore Point will be created.

Note that all previous restore points will be lost.
