Is US industry on the way out, or to paraphrase Mark Twain has news of their death been greatly exaggerated? :( With IBM selling out their PC side to Lenovo, and another Chinese company's failed bid for Unocal 76, can US industry recover?

It and the Apple II PC used to be the sort of goods that industry made and buyers took for granted. Now, with manufacturing being relocated elsewhere it's a new world. My 1990/91 Atari 7800 console was assembled in China, whereas the early VCS console was US made. That move has to have a negative economic effect on employment. :(

Well that's capitalism for you, companies are free to locate their manufacturing industry wherever it's cheapest. If china offers cheap labour then that's where companies will go. Isn't that part of the American dream?
