Microwave Search

I'm looking for an over-the-range microwave. Easy, right? Not so easy. The cabinet I want to fit the microwave under only leaves 12" of height for the microwave. Every over-the-range microwave I can find locally is 16" high, due to the integral fan and hood assembly. I don't need or want that, as my vent is built into the wall adjacent to the oven. What I need to find, if it exists, is an approximately 12" tall over-the-range microwave, in order to leave enough room to cook on the stove. Does such a thing exist? :scratch:

Even if one did, it would be a little too narrow to put very many things into it wouldn't it?

Narrow? They're ~30" wide and 12"-16" deep. All the ones I've seen have the microwave part itself at about 12"-13" tall, but the vent hood adds about 4" - I need one that is 4" shorter, preferably without the vent hood.

Why do you need an "Over the Range" model if you don't want the vent?
Isn't the vent what defines an "Over the Range" model?
Can you just mount a standard microwave above the range?

Over-the-range microwaves are oven width, 30" - it seems that the under the counter models are about 24" wide. I'm looking at options for putting a normal microwave up there, but I need a cabinet or shelf to hold it that matches the cabinetry and can support the microwave and its contents, something else that's proving difficult to find.
