This is a sweet PBS commercial called "Bucket Brigade" and I'd like to know the name of the song playing and the artist. I'm not having much luck.

It's probably some sort of folk music.

 It's certainly some sort of folk music...

It is pretty cool, and I've heard it's ilk before. You wont find it as a named song by a specific band. It's an up-beat Irish accordian tune with eastern european melodies and tempo.

I'll send it to a guy I know who has a music degree and a good memmory, and see if he knows more.

That is an awesome comercial. Almost sounded polka-ish. If you find out please let us know.

Well I was pointing out that it's not likely to have a name as such. Most ethnic folk music doesn't as they're just tunes handed down generation to generation.

Jeez, don't have a hemorage...

I'm not having a hemorage, but thanks for your concern ;)

Scot E-mailed me back this morning and corrected me. It's not Irish accordian, it's French Accordian, but I was right about the Eastern European melody and tempo behind it.

He pointed out that the directors choice of using this music was similar to other directors choosing piano for anything set in England, and a banjo for anything set in Texas. It's just there to show that the setting is European, without having to tell you. Also, this song was likely recorded for the comercial, and this is the only place it's ever been used, but if you find out who the director is, you might be able to find out who he usually works with on music.

The director is the same fella who directed Shadow of the Vampire, E. Elias Merhige.

I've always refered to that musical style as French Gypsy Folk, and it's similar to stuff from the Amile soundtrack. There's also a band called DeVotchKa that has a song called "charlotte mittnacht (The Fabulous Destiny of...)" that's in a similar vein.

La Noyee by Yann Tiersen, the same guy that did the music for Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amélie Poulain. This song was written for the movie and is on the soundtrack.

(I was watching PBS when I saw the commercial,I googled it because I loved the music and it lead me to this thread, you said something about it sounding like the music from Amelie so ACQUIRED the soundtrack...the rest is history)

And the song and commercial are still both just as awesome! I need to pick up the Amélie soundtrack this week.

His music makes me want to learn how to play an accordion.

That's definitely an interesting commercial... Especially since the link has been up for more than a year...
