View Full Version : Apple spam?

I've gotten several emails from Apple lately, and I can't decide if they're spam or what.

I first got one welcoming "Mariah Bitter" to the iTunes music store. Two things are interesting about this: I know no Bitters, and I would never in my life use the ITMS.

Today I got a receipt email saying she ordered a bunch of songs - at first I was concerned, but then realized I didn't care since there's no way anyone could have my credit info (no credit card is the best protection ;)).

It told me I could logon if I wanted to - I tried it. Obviously I didn't know "my" password, so I did the reset thing - I could literally change Mariah Bitter's password, and probably purchase hundreds of songs. Note that I didn't actually change it, nor did I buy or even look at anything.

But this is slightly weird. The official Apple site even recognized my account as Mariah Bitter. Any ideas?

Edit: Even worse is that she has horrible taste in music ;D:

Maybe you should email Aple and tell them the registered email is incorrect. God knows how they would let this person know about the issue though.

They should be able to look up her snail-mail address from her credit card info. Whether they go to the trouble or not is another story.

(0 for 1 with iTunes).

Lot of good they are. Where's this great Apple service you Mac fans keep blabbing about? All I got was, "Oh, sorry, try the website..." DUH! That's where I got your phone number from. "Well, try sending an email, I guess." Done, and as expected, got an automated response.

"We're unable to reset your password. Please go to..." Haha. In other words, "Congratulations on accidentally hijacking someone's account. Please feel free to modify it to your liking and spend all their money."

:grumble:

To make a long story short, last Christmas (2004) I sent one of my nieces an iTunes gift certificate via email. Somehow, it got deleted before she could use it. (She blames her spam filter, but who knows...)

I tried to get them to invalidate the original access number and send her a new one and became involved in the same game of badminton between their web/phone "support". Lucky me, I got to be the birdie. :Pwned:

I think I might have to send her a snail mail letter... i don't know how else to get ahold of her.

I am willing to bet that she would be very grateful to know about this situation.

hmm, judging by her taste in music, she could just be some goth teen that will more than likely just flip you off, heh.

Oh, remember a while back I was looking for a lossless music download site? Well seems Allofmp3.com have a decent selection now (not all of it is lossless, but you'll normally find things on multiple CDs and eventually one that lets you encode to lossless).
