View Full Version : AH! PLEASE help me get rid of pop up Freewebs Account Frozen page!

:scratch: I have been trying to figure out why the heck I can't get rid of this site that pops up http://www.freewebs.com/abuseFrozen.htm. I saw some other posts that people had, and they posted their HiJackThis log and someone told them to delete or fix certain things... can someone PLEASE do this for me?? It's driving me insane! Please make a folder here:

C:\HJT

Unzip or copy the Hijack This program into that folder and then run another scan and post the log back here.

ooops! Still not running Hijack This from the correct place. Using Windows Explorer navigate to this folder

C:\Documents and Settings\Linda\Local Settings\Temp\

Locate Hijack This.exe on the right hand pane.

Now left click once on the program and hold down the mouse button while doing this. Then drag the mouse to the desktop. The Hijack This.exe program will come with it. Now you can run the program from the desktop. The idea here is that we don't want to run it from a temp folder like this:

C:\Documents and Settings\Linda\Local Settings\Temp\

Post the log back when you have done this. If you need more help in getting the program out of the temp folder let me know.

I'm not seeing anything jumping out at me in your log. Can you tell me when the pop up occurs? Does this page immediately show up when you open internet explorer? Or is it just a random pop-up?

OK, well download Ewido Anti-Malware and Ad-Aware from my signature below. Install the programs but don't run them yet. You need to update both of these programs as well. You will be prompted to do this.

Next reboot the PC into safe mode. Instructions for doing that are here. (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;315222)

Run a full scan with Ewido in safe mode and let it delete anything it finds. Be sure to save the log from the scan.

Boot the PC back into normal mode and run a full scan with Ad-Aware. Let it delete anything it finds.

Post the Ewido log and a fresh Hijack This log back here.

It pops up I think everytime I load up my computer and is connected to the internet... might have something to do with the MSN messenger maybe? I think I read that somewhere, but I will try what you have suggested... thank u again!

Glad we could be of assistance to you. Now it's up to you to stay that way by using some free anti-malware software, a good firewall, good anti-virus software and some common surfing sense. :)

Actually there is a program that will clean up crap. Download Crap Cleaner (CCleaner) from here. (http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4191.html)

It will clean out all temp files, browser history, old prefetch data, etc. Don't use the "issues" feature though since that messes with the registry and might screw things up more. Just use the analyze and clean feature. Using this tool regularly will free up a lot of space on your PC and keep it running efficiently.
