Hello!

I'm setting up 4 computers for a multi-media club and i need to be able to regulate what the kids are accessing on the net. Are there any good freeware internet filters/monitors? We've used NetNanny in the past but its a touch too expensive for this particular community-funded program. Also, a good freeware firewall/antivirus would be great. Thanks in advance.

www.dansguardian.org + www.smoothwall.org + old crappy PC with two network cards = free and really good solution

Some Linksys routers will also allow you to block certain URLs and have access restrictions based on the particular computer and time of day. I set up one to promptly stop letting a womans son from access the net after 9pm on school nights.

I'm going to try and set up a server using Fedora Core 4. Once i get the server going, i'll see about setting up a firewall. Will those work within Linux or do those have to be on a seperate system?

I believe smoothwall is a linux os which acts soley as a firewall.

As a high schooler, I plead with you not to run Bess. It's a headache for anybody doing research(or looking for games) It blocks all forums, all websites with free hosting, and even Wikipedia! I understand the reasoning, but it's just too harsh and doesn't make execeptions.
