okay, i just put opera on my computer, and im loving it, but how do you get ie off, I switched opera over to the default browser and all, but my computer still opens some things in ie.
like i have wamp installed as a test php/MySQL server, and when I do anything with it, it runs it through ie. things it opens are the local host, myadmin and others.
driving me nuts.

Change Opera to your default browser. I don't think you can completely take IE out, but you can sort of take it out by going to Control Panel > Add/Remove > Add/Remove Windows Components > Uncheck IE then hit Next.

You can't uninstall ie its an intergrated part of the operating system and cannot be removed. (Atempting to causes windows to bsod unless you replaced the shell with the nt4 shell and disable windows file protection.)

There's no reason to get rid of IE. It doesn't harm anything simply residing in your hard drive. Besides, unless things have changed and I didn't hear, you can't do Windows Updates through Microsoft with browsers other than IE.

Yep that's why I keep it. Launchcast+ and Windows Update
To use this site, you must be running Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 or later.

One time I think that I got as close possible to getting rid of IE, but as everybody has already said, there's not really any point except to defy Microsoft. I ended up reinstalling it after a couple months anyways, which was quite a hassle.

A handful of sites will not work with Opera. As a loyal and dedicated Opera user, this is very frustrating.
