Hi,

I have an old laptop: win 98 se Pentium 1

The cd letter referring to the cd rom has changed to a physical partition that doesn't exist.
E.g the letter E was assigned to my cd rom but now refers to a partition that doesn't exist....
I ran sfc, scandisk, defrag with no results.
I changed the letter as well but it still points to the partition but with a different letter
I took out the cd rom, inserted it again but it didn't work either.

What else can be done?

(The problem is that I canT use other diagnostic programs/tools since I have no access to the cd rom....)

Thanks,

Bendi

Double-check the BIOS to make sure the settings for your drives and IDE Channels there are correct. Sometimes if they're not Windows is still able to detect that something is there, it just can't quite figure out what it is.

What does Device Manager look like?
