what do you guys use to search for torrents?

i'm pretty new to it, and so far, i've only found www.suprnova.org to be useful, but i'm sure there are either programs or better sites out there to facilitate the search.

and... how fast do you typically get? i mean at the top end of the scale?

i was getting at most about 250 here at school.

thrax, i think i remember you mentioning you are a bittorrent user.

i've also been using suprnova, i've been having trouble finding a torrent search engine that stays up for longer than a week

Top end of the scale, on a popular torrent, I get approximately 340 kb/s with my 4000/512 + 1500/256 Cable + DSL + Load Balancing Router combo.

On average I pull in about 70 KB/s because I have quite a bit of upload bandwidth. Bittorrent is all about upload bandwidth. The faster you share, the faster you get it. I use suprnova, as all the other ones I've ever run across are pretty much crap. Broken trackers, bum torrents, etcetera.

There really aren't better engines out there, but I'm not quite sure I want a better engine. It would split the community. If you're interested however, for a nominal fee (10$ one time), somethingawful.com has a BLAZING fast torrent directory with content similar to suprnova. It's rockin' over there. I paid just for the torrents, even though I think the rest of that community is built by and for complete idiots.

yeah, something awful is completely insane

i should get a friend who loves that site to split a membership with me. he can use the forums, and i'll use the torrents.

so i just so happened to come across the best thing there is? crazy

i've got plenty of upload, at least 500 k a sec. we've got 20 megabit at a school of only 1600, and we've got kazaa limited (not blocked, but you can't download very fast).

the one file that went over 200 was by far the most popular file i've downloaded, and of course, according to the way torrent works, that's going to be the fastest file, but i'm sure there are still files that are much more popular files than that one.

i need to just download whatever is the most popular file just see how fast i can get.

the guy that came up with this is awesome. it's just a great idea all around.

Suprnova is the best BT site I've found as well. I've gotten 150 kb/s on my cable modem, but my average is closer to 50kb/s with some torrents dropping even lower.

I'm away from my regular desktop, but I thought there was a Suprnova search engine. That may be only a small part of the total that you want to search, but it's a start. I'll see if I can find the link.

Novasearch just helped me find a file that hasn't hit any of the mirrors on suprnova yet. Wooohah.

It is a great little tool.

Thrax,
you mind sharing more info on somethingawful.com's BT search engine?

Kudos, Dexter. What was up with that post?

Make sure you bookmark a specific Suprnova.com site, rather than suprnova.com itself, as most of their mirrors don't seem to work and you end up putting the url in multiple times before you hit a mirror that loads.

What did that other post say?

I've deleted the post/s and cleaned up this thread. The who's and why's involve one forums etiquette and rules and what happens when someone breaks them. Let's not go there. It's done and dusted.

Carry on as you were guys :)

Novasearch works for me, grabbed Fedora last night. Core1 for AMD64 :vimp:
