View Full Version : Broadband with Belkin wireless router...

Added a wireless Belkin 802.11g router to my Roadrunner and I can't access my POP3 mail (Outlook Express/host 'pop-server' could not be found) and my torrent program - utorrent - cuts me off from the net when I launch it (unplug the router for a few seconds and it will work again and I can access the net).

I went with WEP 64 bit security for ease of use with my Nintendo DS... I don't have anything set to restrict access to the Internet, e-mail or other network services...

(what did I screw up?)

Check to make sure you've got plug and play port fowarding enabled. If that's not an option then you may have to manual enable port 6881-6889 for your torrents and ports 110 and 25 for your email. Though having to activate the email ports is very odd.

I found the P&P port forwarding - UPNP. I enabled it, but no luck... did not do anything.

Not sure how to enable ports...

in that same area where you found UPnP there will be a thing for port forwarding. To enable it you put in the port you want to open and set it to tcp/ip, UDP or both. Then plug in the IP of the computer you want to forward them too.

One thing though I missed first time through. You said when you start up utorrent it cuts you off from the net. Are you meaning that only utorrent isn't working or that you can't browse either?

One other thing. Check on your router there should hopefully be a setting about MTU size. Make sure that it's set to 1492.

Check in firewall. I've never setup a belkin router before.

I just set up a Belkin modem for port fowarding. It's under Virtual Servers. Now if someone can tell me how to enable outside pings when the modem doesn't have a WAN Ping Blocking link...
