I just noticed NetFlix new 'friends' feature. It lets you see ratings and suggestions from people you know who also use NetFlix.

Any other SMers use NetFlix?

I used it for 2 months and was very happy with it. The shipping times were great - 2 or 3 days to get to me, 2 or 3 days to get back to Netflix - never any longer than that. They had a huge selection, probably even bigger now. I had no trouble cancelling my account at all and haven't gotten any spam or junk mail from them since. Netflix is top-notch in my book

I used blockbuster online which is basicly the same. Everything was pretty good with it but i'm too sponatnioius. I had to plan ahead what movies i wanted to watch,. that is not something i do well, so i cancelled..

Crystal wants to get it. I'm trying to find a viable alternative, since the "throttling" concept really irks me. I'd never hit their quota, but it's still a bothersome concept. Like going to an AYCE buffet, and being given smaller and smaller plates every time you went up for more, while they move your table farther away from the buffet each time.

I currently use the mvp program at Hollywood Video.
3 out at a time from my local store that are labeled "Free MVP".
Keep for 5 days at a time.

The Blockbuster one sounds intreguing to me though. Same concept as Netflix, but you get 1 free in store rental each week. That way even if you don't get something quickly in the mail you can go to the local store and pic something out.

Does the Hollywood program include online rentals? Our tastes usually stray pretty far from what the stores tend to carry, that's why she wanted Netflix. Do you know how the breadth of Blockbuster's online offerings compares to the Netflix/Walmart gargantua beast?

I used Blockbuster for 3 or 4 months and didn't have any problem with it. I got 3 at a time plus 2 free movies or games in store and it seemed to work great. My problem is similar to Aranyic's -- I'm a spontaneous movie watcher and so queing up films just isn't my style. I quit and had zero problems with them.

That being said, Blockbuster's selection is HUGE. I can't compare since it's the only service I used, but their online selection was kickass and I always seemed to be able to find what I wanted. Best Motoring International car DVDs and strange foreign films weren't a problem to get. Shipping times were good too. I think it was 3-4 days, but not bad. Never got any unreadable disks either.

That's why I got NetFlix. I usually can't find anything in the stores. The in-store Anime selection is always particularly bad...

I also like that NetFlix now allows muliple people (at one address) on the same account, so that they can have seperate ques, and each have a certain number of movies out at once... makes it easy to split with someone...

What I was asking though (I guess my OP was ambiguous) was if anyone wants to be my on my NetFlix friend list... ;)

when you invite a "Friend", you can give personal recommendations, along with a mini-review; you'll be able to view their ratings of any movies you come across while browing and vice versa; AND - both you and your friend will be able to see each other's list of movies, both in your respective queues as well as movies you've previously rented.

Right, getting some SMers on my list may introduce me to some movies and shows that I may never have heard of, yet may be just what I look for, at the same time, it will indroduce others to the stuff that I like...
