So I work in IT as desktop/network/server support, and I do stress support. How thorough is the A+/Network+ testing.. Any tips or comments there? I asked here because well "this area has one foot in hardware and one in software"

Get both just becuase they're basic and ALOT of jobs really like A+ no matter how good you are plus you can learn a few things you didn't know before. I also do Tech Support, I used to work for Verizon DSL, now I work for an ACTUAL smart company doing Network Support for Hotels. They want me to go with A+ and N+ before I go with Cisco which is what I wanted to do right away.

Well Im definitely going for the tests I'm just wondering how much obscure knowledge is involved and basically things people did'nt realize about the testing until they took it. I just don't know how much prep I should invest.

IMHO it's a test and should be treated like so. I haven't yet taken it, I am sure most of us here could pass without studying for the A+, but I am anyways if not just for the simple fact that if I do fail, my workplace won't pay. Net+ I think is the tougher of the two tests, A+ is basic knowlege and 80 questions x2 tests IIRC.

I wouldn't say many people here could take the test w/o studying. I'm taking the test this June after my CSN class is over.

i have both A+ and Net+, the Net+ is by far more complicated because its focused direclty at networking, the A+ is so freaking broad its not even funny.

all you really need to study ( this is the basis that you are REALLY familiar with networking and computers ) are the Test Kings, which are HUGE lists of questions ( from the test ) and answers, i had about 6 questions on my A+ that were stright from the test king.

You use the test king and only 6 questions were on the test? Why would you recoment it then?

Do you know how absurdly unlikely it is that a study guide would have six questions on the sitting exam?

In preperation for the A+ certification, we're reading this ( http://www.course.com/catalog/product.cfm?isbn=0-619-21324-8 ) A+ guide to Managing and Maintaining your PC. I plan on "re-reading" this book after we're done with it in class.

the test kings give you a very good idea of what to expect on your exam considering they are questions from tests them selves. there are somthing like 90 questions on the exam ( Per test A+ software and A+ hardware, you get an 1.5 hours i think. it took me like 20 minutes for each part of the test.
