Intel has given us a peak at its new desktop line in regards to specs and benchmarks, but has not given much to go on for the price. Until now, it is rumored the Core Duo 2500 is reported to cost a staggering $2,200 per chip.
how can Intel get away with selling the "brains" of a computer at such a high premium? After all, the chipset and every other piece of electronics on the Asus board is the acme of technology.
Wow, AMD's AM2 is looking real good in my eyes.

That is why it says Rumor...
If INTEL wants to win market share back from Nvidia they may as well close their doors if they try sell their Core Duo's at that price. They arrogant, but they not stupid.
I tend to agree with ryko. The boys at the Inquirer were burning "special" insence when they wrote that article.

it is rumored the Core Duo 2500 is reported to cost a staggering $2,200 per chip The only realistic word in that phrase is "rumored." Although Intel is a marketing company that happens to make microcircuitry products, they aren't so stupid as to let AMD take even more market share without a fight. I think Intel has awakened from their drunken idiocy of the last two years.
But maybe, just maybe, they really will continue to be stupid, and there will be a glut of Conroes on the market, and I can snatch them up on Ebay for a song like I did my 820s... nah, but it was a nice thought.
Consider the news source. PC Insiders know that the Inq is virtually never wrong.

Based on the info in that PDF file, I'd say the pricing is actually very competitive and realistic.
