Viewpoint Manager is a "potentially unwanted program."
Read here for more details:
http://vil.nai.com/vil/content/v_137262.htm
If you want to remove it, please go to Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and uninstall: ViewPoint Manager

Delete smitrem if you have no use for it anymore.
C:\Documents and Settings\JAM\My Documents\smitRem\

Now you need to update Java:
Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on the Software icon > add/remove programs.
Search in the list for all previous installed versions of Java. (J2SE Runtime Environment.... )

It should have next icon next to it: http://users.telenet.be/bluepatchy/miekiemoes/images/javaicon.jpg
Select it and click Remove.
Then Download and install the newest version from here:http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp (http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp)

Now boot to safe mode, before deleting the following file if found:
C:\WINDOWS\keyboard41.dat

Restart your computer to normal mode. Now rescan with both Panda ActiveScan and HijackThis, before posting the two fresh logs in your next reply. You should be clean by now, but it doesn't hurt to have a check.

Everything came off.....but, the Dollarrevenue...all it does is change the .dat files to .chk or other.

Is there a way to remove it completely?

RIGHT-CLICK HERE (http://metallica.geekstogo.com/alcanshorty.bfu) and choose "Save As" (in IE it's "Save Target As") in order to download Alcan worm remover.
Save it in the same folder you made earlier (c:\BFU).

Do not do anything with these yet!

Reboot your computer into Safe Mode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping F8 until a menu appears. Highlight Safe Mode and hit Enter.

Once in Safe Mode, please go to Start > My Computer and navigate to the C:\BFU folder.
Start the Brute Force Uninstaller which you downloaded earlier by doubleclicking BFU.exe
Next to the scriptline to execute field click the folder icon http://metallica.geekstogo.com/foldericon.png and select alcanshorty.bfu
Press Execute and let it do it’s job. (You ought to see a progress bar if you did this correctly.)
Wait for the complete script execution box to pop up and press OK.
Press exit to terminate the BFU program.

Reboot into normal Windows.
Update then run a scan with ewido and remove anything found.
Then rescan with Panda ActiveScan before posting the fresh log in your next reply. This should get rid of DollarAvenue.

I did what you said. I got a file named Teller.chk but i re-booted in safe mode and removed it. Then I started in normal mode and ran another Panda search and nothing appeared. I believe nothing is on it becuase it finished clean.

Congratulations! Your computer appears clean.

Click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, click System Tools, and then click System Restore. Click to add a check mark beside Turn off System Restore on all Drives, and click Apply. When you are warned that all existing Restore Points will be deleted, click Yes to continue. All system restore points are deleted. Now you should manually create a restore point. Click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, click System Tools, and then click System Restore.
Click Create a Restore Point, and then click Next. Name your restore point. (I use the date as well as a descriptive term such as "Clean system.")

Here are a number of recommendations for additional protection to help prevent any malware infections in the future. These few simple steps can stave off the vast majority of spyware problems.

You may have already taken some of these steps:
1. Watch what you download!
Do not download just anything you see on the web. Some may have spyware bundled into them.

2. Try not to use peer-to-peer programs.
P2P programs like Grokster, Imesh, Kazaa and others are amongst the most notorious, come with an enormous amount of bundled spyware that will eat system resources, slow down your system, clash with other installed software, or just plain crash your browser or even Windows itself. If you insist on using a P2P program, please read this article (http://www.spywareinfo.com/articles/p2p/) written by Mike Healan of Spywareinfo.com fame. It is an updated and comprehensive article that gives in-depth detail about which P2P programs are "safe" to use.

3. Visit Windows Update:
Make sure that you have all the Critical Updates recommended for your operating system and IE. The first defense against infection is a properly patched OS.
Windows Update: http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp
We recommend checking for Windows updates monthly.

4. Adjust your security settings for ActiveX:
Go to Internet Options/Security/Internet, press 'default level', then OK.
Now press "Custom Level."
In the ActiveX section, set the first two options ("Download signed and unsigned ActiveX controls) to 'prompt', and 'Initialize and Script ActiveX controls not marked as safe" to 'disable'.

So why is ActiveX so dangerous that you have to increase the security for it?
When your browser runs an activex control, it is running an executable program. It's no different from doubleclicking an exe file on your hard drive.
Would you run just any random file downloaded off a web site without knowing what it is and what it does?

5. Download and install the following free programs:
a. SpywareBlaster: http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html
b. SpywareGuard: http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareguard.html
Periodically check for updates.

6. Keep your antivirus software up to date. If you don't have one, I recommend the free AVG (http://free.grisoft.com/softw/70free/setup/avg71free_371a669.exe).

7. Use a firewall. If you don't have a firewall, I recommend the free version of ZoneAlarm (http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/company/products/znalm/freeDownload.jsp)
A tutorial on understanding and using firewalls may be found here (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/tutorial60.html)

8. IE-SPYAD (https://netfiles.uiuc.edu/ehowes/www/resource.htm) puts over 5000 sites in your restricted zone, so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all. Another good hosts program is mvpshosts (http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.zip). This little program packs a powerful punch as it block ads, banners, 3rd party Cookies, 3rd party page counters, web bugs, and many hijackers. For information on how to download and install, please read this tutorial (http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm).

9. You might consider installing Mozilla / Firefox, which is much safer than Internet Explorer.
http://www.mozilla.org/

10. Install spyware detection and removal programs:
Ad-aware: http://www.snapfiles.com/get/adaware.html
Spybot S&D:
http://www.safer-networking.org
Use these programs to regularly scan your system for and remove many forms of spyware/malware.

11. Microsoft now offers their own anti-spyware product. Windows® Defender (Beta 2) (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=435bfce7-da2b-4a6a-afa4-f7f14e605a0d&DisplayLang=en) improves Internet browsing safety by guarding over fifty (50) ways spyware can enter your PC. This is a BETA for XP/2000 only.

12. Before using or purchasing any Spyware/Malware protection/removal program, always check the Rogue/Suspect Spyware List. It will save you a lot of grief, as well as money if you are thinking of purchasing. Here is the link: http://www.spywarewarrior.com/rogue_anti-spyware.htm
If you want to know just how effective your anti-spyware program is, or how well any of the "rogue" programs listed at the above link work, check this for an independent comparison of several anti-spyware programs: http://www.spywarewarrior.com/asw-test-guide.htm

Let us know if we have not resolved your problem. Otherwise, you are good to go.
Happy and Safe Surfing! :D

I downloaded AVAST and when I ran it it said I have a virus. But when I ran Panda and Ewido previously they told me I had nothing. Here is the information.

Win32:CTX (aka Dengue)

Name--------------Original location-------------------------Virus
Kernel32.dll--------C:\WINDOWS\system32
pskavs.dll.vir-----In my Avast Data Folder(moved by Avast)---Win32:CTX
winsock.dll-------C:\WINDOWS\system32
wsock32.dll------C:\WINDOWS\system32

note: I looked and found all where it says they are but when i looked in the AVAST "Data\moved" folder I did not find pskavs.dll.dir--the folder is empty.

Is there a program how to remove it? I have only found things on line saying what it is and what it does.

I guess I should not have desabled system restore yet.

It's pretty strange that Avast found something that Ewido and Panda cannot detect. Could you please rescan with both ewido and Panda? Anything found?

I checked with both of them and they found nothing.

Is it bogus?
But when I looked up online information for "Windows32:CTX" it gave me information on what type of virus it was.

Win32.CTX
These are Win32 parasitic viruses. They use polymorphic and "Entry Point Obscuring" methods (see below).
Win32.CTX.6886
It is not a dangerous nonmemory resident parasitic polymorphic Windows virus. It searches for PE EXE files (Windows Portable Executable files) in the current directory (except drive root directory), Windows and Windows system directory and infects up to five files in each directory on each infected file start.

The virus checks file names and avoids infecting several anti-virus programs: DR*, PA*, RO*, VI*, AV*, TO*, CA*, IN* (DRWEB, PANDA, VIRUS*, AVP, e.t.c.).

The virus payload routine is activated when an infected file is executed six months after being infected and exactly at the same hour. This routine inverts the desktop colors if the monitor has enough resolution, and then goes in an endless loop.

The virus contains the following text strings that are not used in any way:

[ CTX Phage Virus BioCoded by GriYo / 29A Disclaimer: This software has
been designed for research purposes only. The author is not responsible
for any problems caused due to improper or illegal usage of it ]

Win32.CTX.10853 aka Dengue
This variant of the virus is memory resident. It leaves its copy in the system memory, locates the EXPLORER.EXE image in the system memory, gets access to its code and patches it so that virus code will receive control when applications are active in the system. The virus then receives control to the host program, and virus memory resident copy "waits" for the call from patched EXPLORER.EXE code.

When the virus code gets control from EXPLORER.EXE, it scans all subdirectories on all drives, looks for .EXE, .SCR and .CPL files and infects them in background.

The virus checks file names and avoids infecting several anti-virus programs and utilities. The files are checked by the first two letters in their file name: DR*, PA*, RO*, VI*, AV*, TO*, CA*, IN*, MS*, SR*, SP*, RP*, PR*, NO*, CE*, LE*, MO*, SM*, DD*, SO*, SQ*, EX*, IE*, CM*, CO*.

The virus also deletes several anti-virus data files: AVP.CRC, ANTI-VIR.DAT, CHKLIST.CPS, CHKLIST.MS, IVP.NTZ.

The virus contains the text string:

Ok ok....so I have been doing some more digging and found out something else. I guess this is a false positive.
Reason:

"This a false positive detection caused by Panda's on-line scanner not encrypting its virus signature files. Active Scan is the folder created by Panda's on-line scanner you can delete the whole folder. Because of its location in the windows\system32\ folder system restore may save a copy of this, so you may need to disable system restore, reboot and then delete it."

This is from an Avast posting with other people getting the same thing.

Thanks for the note. Take care. :)
