View Full Version : Anyone been here since apu's hardware?

I was just thinking, for a long time we had people that went all the way back to the original apu's hardware, but do we anymore?

it's been a long time now, wow. my junior year of high school (3 years ago now) was when we started it, and the name was changed sometime during the spring of that year, so i guess the icrontic name is coming up close to it's third birthday.

I remember the days.... when I first found "Apu's Hardware", don't know how I ended up finding it, a link from the OCP maybe? But, shortly after I joined up, Apu's became Icrontic, and I have fond memories of having my own site on "The Icrontic Network" and such, ah, the good ol' days, so yes, I've been around for a while, maybe not as active as some of the other people, but, I've been around ;)

I second that. I was there about a year I guess after APU's went on line. Pre-IC days. :)

oh yeah

what was that called?

tech something

keith and the 'icrontic network'

that was sooo awesome. back when keith cared, icrontic was pretty cool. unless you butted heads with him.

those were the good ole' days

making gheto hardware on the weekends. damn, i miss it now

all sentimental like in here.

Celcho knows. He was there when they broke the digital ground for APU's. I think. All I remember was bits and pieces of video cards flying across the yard and the bashing of the monitors. ;D

heheh

that's all true, mm

bits and pieces burning, flying, and being hammered

it was a lot of fun. mm, once you started writing reviews, keith finally didn't have to pull all the slack. i was too lazy to ever do reviews, so after awhile, keith quit trying to get me to do them. ghetto hardware became my only duty. and there were those two videos we did. we should have made more...

I remember reading the "Ghett0" articles on APU's back then. God, I laughed so hard watching Keith & Celcho bashing monitors apart, lighting old AT systems on fire, the Ghetto Hardware Olympics (basketball with a hard disk).

Didn't become a member of IC until... well... I'm 2 weeks shy of being a 1 year member of the Icrontic/SM family. :)

/me has a defunct KT7A-RAID that I may find some way to sacrifice. Perhaps 20 gallons of naptha and a match.

I registered w/icrontic in July or August of '01 or '02... I can't remember now.

Anyhow, if you're looking for creative ways to destroy computers, how about setting one on fire and catapulting it into an air mattress full of propane? :D

I'm not sure how I found it ... but I was at the old apu's only pretty much right after it opened. I did not start posting actively until I started folding for Icrontic about a year ago.

Do it ! oh man... that would be fun!

I was a lurker since the very end of Apu's and the beginning of IC. Stayed that way until I needed help and the search button just didn't work and give me my answers ;)

Many of us owe Keith a lot. He served the DIY computer builders very well. I, like so many others found Apushardware when I was researching for my first computer build. At that time, Via's KT100 chipset was very new. I found Apushardware in a Google or Yahoo search, when I was trying to find definitive information on the KT7 motherboard the then fairly new AMD Athlon series of CPUs.

Thanks, Keith!

I was around a short time before APUs changed into Icrontic, but I didn't sign up for either until May as I had never used a forum before and didn't ever bother posting before then.

It's been 2 weeks past a year since I made my first disconcerted move into the IC forums... I still vaguely remember that day. I'd been reading the news for a little over half a year, and the front page got changed around and I was pissed about it. I found the forums (first time I was in a forum and was quite unsure wth I was doing) and signed up to let off some steam. That seems like ages ago. Helluva year.

God this makes me feel old :p

I think I found Apu's hardware about three days before ya'all launched your Counter-Strike server.

That's gotta have been a while back. I'm going to go to class now, and pretend I didn't just figure out that the song I was listening to on my playlist was 11 years old.

I registered on IC in early January 2001, just after the name change from Apu's although I had lurked for awhile before I did sign up.

Wow, time flies!

I'm with Shorty, I was a lurker in apus ending and icrontics beginnings. Finally after a few early yrs of lurking and learning on the net I came out and started posting. And asking dumb questions. The learning process is never over. I enjoy it immensely though.

Yeah, it was called "TechedOut", haha, yea back in the day I thought I was pretty l33t reviewing my optical mice and my at the time NEW Voodoo5 (December 2000? :) ) but yea, I know what you mean about butting heads...not as bad as some though. I just remember one instance (after the Icrontic Network had dissolved and I was hosted elsewhere) when I had said something on a news post about how ridiculous the "icrontic stuntaz" article was and I got some backlash posting in a thread at IC because of that, but, he was a pretty good guy from when I talked to him a few times on IRC setting up my site and the like.

I started right about the time the KT133's hit the scene. And actually I was persuaded to visit by Tex who I met on a hunting forum. Wow, memories between both places as both have evolved and even had membership migrations from one site to another. IC was such a bustling site and you couldn't miss a day without loosing track of something happening. All the friendly names (a lot of which are here) and all the good help to be had with no disrespect or crap from anyone. Even though I wasn't there from the start I still feel priveliged to have been a part of this community for so long. Just to think of not only all the hardware and software that has been develpoed and evolved since then but everything all of us has learned from both first-hand experience and through the experience of others is simply amazing!

Feb or March 2001 for me I think, I'd just built my first pc then upgraded to the KT7a-Raid and found Icrontic, Tex,& Mr Bill to help sought out my Abit woes after doing a google search. :)

I registered in Jan of this year, but I had been going to IC for quite some time. Don't recall ever going to apus. If I did it definitely wasn't a site I regularly visited.

I liked the pimped out gangstas thing.

"Icey Hot Stuntaz"

I thought it was hilarious. ;D

I also liked "Ghetto Hardware", which was actually clever (but crude) engineering sometimes.

Yeah... maybe we should bring Ghetto Hardware back in spirit, but with a different name?

Like Leo and others, I also got sucked into Apu's based on a Google Search for KT7 info. It was a great site as was Icrontic. S-M is great as well and seems to be gaining momentum.

I became a member at Apushardware back in Jan 2001 I believe. I was referred to there from someone at MaximumPC, which I no longer go to (its hard to navigate through all those posts, and the website is painfully slow)

It was just after when had just got my KT7-RAID and Duron 600 in Sept 00.

I was around in the apushardware days as well though work (and EF2) have made me scarce lately. Celcho, I still have the one of Keith and someone else destroying a case to the song Kung Fu Fighting if you want it.
