I feel so dumb, but how do i close (or remove) my account here?

Why would you close your account here, i0design?

We have people from all walks of life here, with a very large deviation in PC skill and ability, but we're not all about PCs. Short-Media may be a technical website, but we're the most family-minded technical website on the internet. If you're not as adept at PCs as you wish you were, stick around and learn! Everyone starts somewhere. I can remember a day where even starting a game in DOS was a struggle, but it's forums like this that have really kept me on top of today's technology and taught me what I know. If PCs aren't your cup of tea, perhaps you'd be interested in our video game, software, or pub sections of the forum? No technical experience needed! Talk about your favourite games or applications, or simply shoot the breeze. There's a reason why the Pub is one of our most popular forums! We may be technology, but we live to schmooze about life. It even says so on the very top of our forum.

Getting back to the family-minded approach to forums, perhaps you'd be keen to know that we've had members for 5+ years that have never commented on a technical thread, but are respected, valued members of the community. We don't want to lose them, and we certainly wouldn't want to lose you. Anyone and everyone is welcome if they have kind words, the spirit of helpfulness, and the willingness to give anything a try.

So I ask, just as a single member on SM to another, is there anything I could do to make you rethink your position? To better your experience here?

i0,

NEVER, EVER, EVER, ... (well you get the point).... worry about how you rate on some invisible scale of computer knowledge here at S-M..

As Thrax said, we're here because we want to be around like-minded people who have an interest in technology.. This goes for any and all skill levels..

Nobody is going to judge you on what you do or do not know about computers, or anything else technical.

I learn something new every day I visit S-M, sometimes its a great new technical novelty I can use at home or work... And sometimes its another rendition of how Shorty's latest attempt to take over Parliament, with an iPod, a soup strainer, and some old tennis shoes failed.....

My point is, the only thing you have to be good at here is having a good time with good people.. Let everything else happen as it will..

Classic example. Look at me. I don't much about computers, but here I am. I love this place. In fact, I've driven 12 hours to Michigan 3 times to hang out with people from this site. I've got better friends from this site than some of my friends closer to home.

No user can delete their own account, but as the others are saying: Why would you want to delete your account? I humbly ask that you stick around a bit longer and give us a chance :) You may just find lifelong friends here (as I have.... quite a few times... ;) )

There is really no reason to delete your account. If do not enjoy our community, please help us make it better. We value every member no matter their tech. level. I started here with almost no computer experience. Now I am very comfortable with technology and have taken computers as my career.

I agree with the others. You should stick around. I hear you're writing a case mod article. That's awesome, and I can't wait to read it. We're always looking for talent to help others along, and you've got plenty of modding skills.

i0esign I took the liberty of reading all the posts you have made since joining us at SM on 28 April to try and figure out why you would ever want to remove any trace of your participation, in what must arguebly be one of the warmest and close knit forums on the net!

Apart from being no closer to a logical answer, your participation here just blew me away.
By your own admission in the "Who are you" forum http://www.short-media.com/forum/showthread.php?t=5&page=16 you love to help people. This shows clearly in your willingness to impart your knowlege of computers on lesser mortals like myself.

I can see you have an excellent knowlege of hardware, and so you should, seeing you have built over 400 computers. You are generous to a fault You put a lot of time and effort into your posts, researching material and providing the appropriate links.

You love overclocking, know your graphics cards and clearly, you think out the box, coming up with rad ideas like leggo block PC cases, car heater cores as a cheap alternative to radiators for water cooling and other fun stuff like that.
Man from what I've read you'll fit right in here. Everything I've mentioned is what Short-Media is all about. In the 3 weeks you've been posting you already look like part of the furniture :D

So pray...do tell. We would really love to know why you would want to disengage yourself from these fine bunch of fellows.

I couldn't pm you anymore, Ioesign, so I'm forced to write here. I was wondering if you received that memory module I mailed on May 12, 2006. As you remember, I paid for it and it was defective. You were going to replace it for me. Did you get it back? Did you mail the other one out? I wish I didn't have to post here, but you terminated all pm and email notices on your account.

He should really come back, I joined back in december of last year with just some basic knowledge about assembling computer and a little on installing os's, just from being here my troubleshooting skills have gone through the roof, and the diversity of operating systems that im familiar enough to use for basic tasks has gone from one to about seven or eight. Not to mention that I feel as if I've grown to be a part of the "family" here at sm over the year, and I feel like i know some of the people here without ever even physically meeting them. They have to be nicest bunch (excluding thrax, you evil thread deleter j/k ;)) of people/support tech/etc. on the internet, that will reach an arm out to a person that just registered on the site that they dont know from adam with a problem even though there is a possibility that after their problem is solved we will never see them again. And I believe that is where the userbase comes from, at least, thats how they got me, I had a problem, they helped me work through it, and I stuck around.

Anyway, moral of the story is: You are a valued member of the community, you should continue to be. Do you have any reasons to part ways?

Since one of the parties has apparently chosen not to respond, further public discussion of this subject has become rather pointless.

Sincere thanks go out to all of our members who have posted words of encouragement and have graciously taken the time to help a fellow member. :)

This post is somewhat alarming.
It's over a $5 stick of RAM.

Sorry to interject in a closed thread, I just wanted to make sure that was logged incase someone digs this up in a Google search and thinks he ran off with a hundred dollars or something. While every trade is to be taken seriously, I think it is important to keep scale in mind as well.

Prof has taken the lead in resolving this :)

Thanks again to everyone who took the time to express their concern over a fellow member's troubles. :)
