View Full Version : Good Morning....

Your resident Doofus and Technical Fudgewit posting for the first time....

A caveat, before you begin to answer my irredeemably moronic questions here...(Just trying to give you an overal picture of what lies in store for those brave enough to attempt the ascent of the North face of the Half-Wit....)

Everything you 'say' to me will have to be couched in the same way as you'd approach a six-month old kid with a plate of spaghetti....OK?

OK.....
When I close my PC at night, it takes at least twenty minutes to shut down...It keeps coming up with 'this programme does not respond'...Which means resorting to the ol' 1-2 of Control+alt+delelte... Which also takes for-fedging-ever....and then when I get the pretty blue screen with 'Windows is shutting down'...that sticks around for a good ten minutes, before all going bye-byes.....

I have gone all through the palaver of spybot, adaware, downloading AVG latest, etc. etc. etc... as recommended here (http://www.short-media.com/forum/showthread.php?t=43902)

The first diagnostic result is filed as a word.doc, and the second is on my desk-top.... doubtless someone will want to see them...

Well, ya'll have to talk me through how to make them accessible for you to peruse, step by step....

Remember though that, being in France, everything you tell me to do I'll have to 'transfer' to French, and find the equivalent instruction in said language....
I don't like the French.
They're foreign.

I thank you.

:)

Good Morning Alexa,

Please send hijackthis log, so we can examine that.

http://www.short-media.com/forum/showthread.php?t=43902

Step 7.

Alexa
13 May 2006, 07:55am
Well, for a start, it never asked me to save the file...It really didn't...Either in French, or in English....
SO....
How do I send you the file that I have managed (I think!!) to save to the desktop?

I did tell you I would need walking through this....

Telling me to 'send you the file' is like me telling you to:

"K1, PSSO, K2, PLT, K1P2 to end of row." !!

Incidentally, the only instructions visible when The system scan is complete, are the following:

In the "Scan and fix stuff" box, I have 'scan', 'fix checked' and 'info on selected item....'

In the "Other stuff" box, I have 'Info', 'Config' and 'add checked to ignore list.'

So saving it was a bit of a hit-and-miss affair...I must have done something right - but don't ask me what - !!

Can't find any of them anywhere...Could you be more specific about how to locate them? Step by step please....

I DID tell you this at the beginning.
I'm just not PC-minded, you'll have to explain it in layman's terms...I don't understand jargon, I'm afraid.....!:wtf:

They are not there. The only My-something listed, is 'Mysee Web TV'

Otherwise, the other programmes you told me to remove, are not listed.

...And another ruddy thing...
EVERY single time I start up the PC, I get a message box which reads:

"Windows cannot find 'C:\PROGRA ~1\SOFTWA ~1\soproc.exe' make sure that you have entered the name correctly and try again. To locate a file, click on 'Start' then 'Search'. "

What does it mean?
Why do I get it every time?
is it important?
How do I get rid of it?

that file is part off MyWebSearch and is bad file.

Please download ewido anti malware it is a free version of the program -> http://www.ewido.net/en/download/

1. Install ewido security suite
2. When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck..
* Install background guard
* Install scan via context menu
3. Launch ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop, double-click it.
4. The program will now open to the main screen.
5. When you run ewido for the first time, you may get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click OK. We will fix this in a moment.
6. You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
* On the left hand side of the main screen click update.
* Then click on Start Update.
7. The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
(the status bar at the bottom will display ("Update successful")

If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update ewido.
ewido manual updates -> http://www.ewido.net/en/download/updates/

Once the updates are installed do the following:

Boot your computer in SafeMode by doing the following:

1. Restart your computer
2. After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3. Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4. Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

Launch ewido:

* Click on scanner
* Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
* You will be prompted to clean the first infection.
* Select "Perform action on all infections", then proceed.
* Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
* Click Save report.
* Save the report .txt file to your desktop or a location where you can find it easily.

Close ewido security suite.

Reboot back to normal mode

Send a fresh HjT log and ewido report.

This is the HJTL report...But even though I saved the ewido report in word.doc, I can't now retrieve it...I've checked the quarantine file of ewido and there's stuff in there, but how do I copy/paste and bring it here....?

How often do I have to do this? It takes hours!! I have so much spyware and protection programmes on my PC right now - is it all really necessary - ?!?

Okei, bad lines are away from hijack log :D

Off course you can shut down ewido and Run it only then computer seems to be slower.

....Any hints on content of post #11, please....?

And to post a question, I put forward elsewhere....
On my PC I have...

AVG 7.0fw_344a
AVG 7.1
Spybot Search & Destroy
Ad-Aware
CWShredder
Ramboost
Ewido anti malware
Bitdefender on-line virus scan
Panda software Anti-Virus active scan
Hyjack this
and
Zonealarm -
as well as aol autodiagnostic -!!

How often should I run these programmes?
(AVG auto-runs every day....)
can I get them to autorun like AVG or do I have to forever trigger them off myself...?

Is it really necessary to have them all...??

Isn't it a bit "overkill"....?

it's your choice.

I have:

Zone
AVG
spybot
Ad-aware
Ewido

and several special programs. However I need only Zone Alarm and AVG, but that is a different story...
